Thank you. Unfortunately it got worse. I’ve lost track of the time, but about 3 weeks ago I ended up in the emergency room with my daughter. At first they thought she was having heart problems, but it turned out she was severely anemic. She had to have two transfusions. Thank you Lyme disease and stress.
Then 2 weeks ago she started complaining her feet were numb. She had some transfusion reactions (had them before when her colon perforated, so it was expected). It continued to get worse and a week ago we ended up in the emergency room again and she had ascending paralysis. Luckily it never affected her breathing.
After the $500K workup, it looks like it’s a combination of transfusion reaction and Lyme. Something similar happened to her before with her first bout with Lyme, so we know it’s not permanent.
Just to top it off, the doctor and hospital pharmacy gave her a drug combo that has a black box contraindication so now she has seratonin syndrome too. She’s lucky it’s just painful it could have killed her.
She’s still unable to walk without a walker, but feeling is slowly coming back. She’s in PT.
Her med school has been great. She’s taken the semester off and is doing directed studies in her weak areas which is bio chem and pharmacology. Thankfully she was able to keep her insurance through the med school.
I’m pretty overwhelmed right now. I can’t wait to get out of KY. I feel like we’ve been cursed since we moved here.
Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer. I’m really hanging in there OK. Starting to clean out the house, starting to look for a house in OH near my daughter’s med school. I found two townhouse communities that look perfect. Fingers crossed everything works out and soon.
Thanks again for asking.
