Hi, sorry to bother you but I have a quick question on saddle fit, and I’m sort of dealing with two fitters and stubben… So a bit sticky.

I have a horse who fits and goes perfectly in the aramis 17.5 with a 29 tree. I have that on demo but they want 4200 for it. Stubben has the same saddle for sale on their site with a 18 seat for 2500. I probably have an exact 1/2 inch left on his back before the floating rib… So Ina perfect world this should work, however life is not perfect! Also my horse is leased out to two people, one of which is a little “fluffy” so I worry with a longer seat she will move back against the cantle more and cause him back soreness.

both clients are committed and willing to contribute some $ towards the purchase, but I don’t want to spend $$ if not necessary. The other issue is we are riding in the 17.5, so we kno he likes it (clients too) and we are not able to get the 18 on a test ride… We buy direct from stubben and no returns…

i would just just like an independent opinion from a knowledgeable person before I shell out my and clients $$.

thank you!

Theoretically, the 18 should be fine if it doesn’t go past the last rib. However, I haven’t seen photos to truly evaluate. If the longitudinal shape is even slightly too straight in a longer saddle, or, slightly too pommel high, it can dig into the loin and be more of an issue in the longer saddle. Those are all things your fitter should be able to tell you but probably wouldn’t be happy if you then bought bought elsewhere.
