Is It Time to Move My Horse?
I need your thoughts… I’ve been boarding at the same place for over 10 years. My horse is still well-fed and cared for. However, the facilities are not being maintained, and the stable is becoming run-down. The arenas no longer get dragged. If I complain, I’m told, “they’re fine”. The tack room is damp, and I am constantly scrubbing mildew off my leather. When I asked what we could do to fix this, I was told, “If you rode your horse more often, you wouldn’t have mildew”. Barn aisles never get raked; there’s hay all over. Water buckets only get dumped once a week. The adult boarders are now mostly gone, most of the riders are under 15. I’m in my 50’s. Most of the current customers are newbies, and don’t recognize the things that aren’t right.
Deep down, I don’t WANT to move, I want things to get fixed and made right. But I don’t know if that’s ever going to happen. Recently, I found a new place to board. Its everything I want in a stable. I’m torn between loyalty and moving on. I think I should move on, but I guess I need to hear it from someone else. Thoughts?
