Welcome!
Jeff State is a great School! I went there.
The area around the campus has built up like crazy because there is high school just down the road and the traffic is crazy. There are a lot of apartments and houses and the area as far as crime goes is not bad.
However, there is the Highway of Hell better known as 280. Avoid it at all costs if you can.

I am not sure about Oak Mountain. I heard that the stables are under new management and so the jury is out on whether it would be a good place to board. It is not too far from campus.

I know the barn you are talking about. It is very nice and just built. It is not far from my apartment complex.

There is a barn in Moody called Shamrock Stables. It is further up 411 as you go north.
It isn’t fancy but I have heard the woman who runs it takes good care of the horses.

You may also want to check out River Run. It is in Leeds on Hwy 119. I believe they are western and it is a huge facility so you may be able to board there.

Also on Hwy 119 is a stable called Rocking L. It is a mostly western stable but anyone can board there. It is more to the southeast of Hoover which is where Jeff State is located.

I love living in Moody which in St. Claire County. But it is probably too far away for you from Jeff State.

Google maps says that the fastest route is 29 minutes but it will probably take longer than that depending on whether there’s a wreck or not.

There is good housing available in north Shelby County however it is on the expensive side and the traffic is just crazy and it stays like that pretty much all day.

Leeds may be a good alternative as River Run and Rocking L are both on Hwy 119 and
it is not nearly as far to Jeff State.

There are several apartment complexes in this area some quite expensive and
a couple which are a little more reasonable. There are many houses for sale up and down 119 both north and south of 280. Some of them do have some land attached. They might be worth looking into.

Hope this helps.
please feel free to pm me if you need more info.

Thanks so much for the help! It’s invaluable to have the input from someone who actually lives in the area. Based on the tack shop website you suggested, I see that there’s another ASB barn in Chelsea that seems to offer boarding. I think I’m going to check it out. It seems to be a bit more laid back than Heathermoor, which is purely focused on training and showing. My husband might be more comfortable in a place that isn’t quite so fast-paced. We’ll also check out the Western places you mentioned for him.

I’ll let you know what we think after we make our trip down there this weekend!
