You will probably get the most accurate information and cost estimates by asking this question to someone in your barn who has had show experience with your trainer. Fees can vary greatly from trainer to trainer and barn to barn. As for fees from the shows themselves, they can be found in the prize lists, which are normally posted online.

The poster who estimated about $2000 for a week at an out of town show is probably fairly close by the time you add in hotel and meals, trainer splits, hay, shavings, braider and your show bill. I think the Harvest Show is the only rated show still available in MN except for the State Fair, so you are most likely looking at traveling to Iowa. The local Red Pine Circuit is relatively inexpensive and a good way for your daughter and her horse to gain experience on a budget.

My daughter grew up showing TBs in MN, both in the hunter and jumper rings. It was a wonderful experience. We were able to sell her horses for more than we paid, but I can’t say we made any profit. It would take a lot of luck and a well connected trainer to sell a TB for $50K in the Midwest.

Good luck and have fun!

Thank you for this great information!! Extremely helpful, especially since you have direct experience with MN.
