Do you own a Stubben Scout?. What do you use it for? I have ridden other people’s horses all my life. I’m currently riding a STB TWH cross that has about 8 speeds. The owner has formal training to level 3 dressage and eventing, but she is an endurance type now, and likes Australia saddles. Her saddles, including her husband’s are too small for me, and they are very secure. I can’t post the trot I fit in so tight. She doesn’t mind if I ride English. I want something I can turn out in for Riding lessons, ride through the woods and jump a small log. I’m 6’ 195# and getting older. I been riding off the track TB and STB for the past 3 years. If I buy or lease; it will probably be one of these "narrower breeds. Thanks for your time. Rob.
Good morning. I just saw this note. Please excuse my inexcusable delay.
Yes, I’ve ridden in the Scout for about 15 years. It was designed a a men’s saddle as the police and military forces of the late '40s were all males. The smallest size is 18" which is what I ride. You might go a 19 or more as you are taller. It will depend on your leg length. They are not particularly “light” (like a McClellan) but are not “steer roping weight” either.
I’m not sure what the tree size range is. My Marchadors all have the slightly larger shoulders of the gaited horse world and a 31cm tree does very well for them.
The overall quality is outstanding.
It is a multi-purpose saddle so you can take it pretty much anywhere, in any English discipline, and do the basics. Until I was forbidden by my wife, my instructor, and the leadership of the U.S. Cavalry Assn., I did some low level jumping. I was never very good at it but that was my problem, not the problem of either my horse or saddle.
This is not a cheap saddle, but it is a forever saddle (as long as you’ve got a horse that it fits).
Again, I am sorry for the delay, here. I just didn’t pay attention to the “Notices” line until this morning.
If you have any other questions please let me know and I promise to pay more attention to the “Notice” line!!!
