Hi there! I see you’re in the Boise area and do dressage… can you tell me a bit about the dressage scene around that area? I’m looking at relocating for work and have been a Boise several times and really liked it.

Thanks!

Hi - There are a couple good dressage barns in Eagle. You’ve probably seen Les Bois Dressage, which is a very nice, newer facility owned by head trainer Nadine Schwartzman. There is also Hallelujah Dressage, which used to be Once Upon a Horse, and is under new ownership in the past year or so. I think they are still going through some settling in, as their initial head trainer is now gone, and they have a new one. I don’t know anything about the new trainer. I do have a co-worker who boards there and says she likes it, but is retiring her horse, so she’s not very active with the training/lessons program. There are also a couple smaller barns in the Eagle area.

I recently moved to Cathy Peterson’s barn in Kuna, which is more of a low-key barn where there is no expectation of being enrolled in a training/lesson program, but most of the boarders are lower level dressage riders.

There is only one recognized show here each year, but otherwise you have to travel to Portland, Spokane, etc. to show recognized. There are a few smaller shows here each year.

We also get several clinicians coming through on a regular basis. I clinic with Danielle Thomason, who is working with Lilo Fore currently. The Eagle barns get Mette Rosencrantz, Carrie Harnden and a few others.

If’ you’re into Legerete, the only certified instructor in North America lives in Emmett, and brings Bertrand here for clinics 3x a year.

Hope that helps.
