Good morning,
I was going through old COTH threads about breeding, and you’d mentioned your familiarity with Hilltop stallions.
I have a W line mare (Widmark) who I plan to breed next spring. I’m looking for a dual-purpose stallion that won’t kill marketability for the dressage crowd. I’m thinking strongly about using Rubinero, and would like to hear your thoughts.
Mare is 15.3 and old fashioned in type. I wouldn’t mind lightening her up a little. She’s a nice mover with a lot of power behind. She’s also got a decent jump. She’s sweet and easy on the ground, but strong under saddle, though I think that’s mostly due to the backyard eventer situation I bought her from. She’s 16hh and a little taller would be fine, but I’m short and I don’t need to add height. So in short, I’m looking for something that may refine a heavier mare a little, adds rideability (I love R line for this) but will be marketable as a dressage horse, if the result doesn’t want to be a hunter or isn’t a keeper for another reason.
Again, not knowing the mare’s background, but she’s got a lot of windpuffs and lumps behind. She’s quite sound and has excellent feet, but I def want something with good angles behind and history of soundness.
I’d love to hear what you think about Rubinero, and any other recommendations you might have. I’m happy to provide full bloodlines and/or a conformation picture if that would help.
Thanks!!
Karen
