Hello! So was wondering if I could get some insight on an abscess issue.
I just recently moved from Michigan to Georgia. My horse made the 14 hr drive shortly after me. When he got to me he desperately needed his feet done so I had my new barns farrier come out early. He blew an abscess in each back foot. he didn’t seem lame just foot sore so I was surprised. Last time he had an abscess he was dead lame at the walk.
The one foot was fine after but the other was fleshy and gross, farrier said looked like a puncture wound. I’ve been wrapping with animalintex pads and Epsom salt everyday but it is still green and mooshy. Like the abscess is still coming out. Today marks the fourth day. If I mess with it it bleeds but it definitely looks like there is a hole when I move it and the abscess hasn’t fully come out yet. I even put a boot on it and let him outside today and it still is in there.
is this normal? How long should I wait for it to come out until I should call a vet? It is on the bottom of his hoof towards the back next to the frog.
