I think you were trying to do a good thing by looking out for your friend. I have a friend that was completely taken advantage of by a trainer. The trainer told her that her horse was lame and never able to jump again and then told her that she needed a new horse (that was completely unsuitable for her riding level) that was young and a different discipline that she was doing (she was a hunter and the new horse is a jumper). My friend bought the horse without a PPE and only rides the horse once a week and a walk and trot because the horse is far too advanced to be safe. The trainer is getting paid to do 5 training rides a week on the horse. Now my friend is riding her original horse who is now okay to jump. The trainer is a notorious fraud in our state and surrounding areas. She has convinced my friend that she needs to go to an out of state show with both of her horses and my friend has told everyone that she will be competing at a 1.10 in March. I don’t know if the trainer has told her this is possible or if there are delusions of grandeur. My friend has only jumped 2’9’’ at the VERY highest possibility. I have tried saying something, I have dug up lots of information to discredit the trainer, but somehow I am the bad guy.

I am sorry this has happened to you. Ugghhhhhhhh

Thanks. My friend is nuts to be honest. From the 1st time I went and watched the child in a lesson, I knew within 5 minutes the trainer was a not a good fit. Then the next thing they tell me is they bought a horse for $19,000. None of the facts about the horse were true and now we will see how it plays out. I can guarantee that horse will not last longer than a year. I’ve known my friend and her children for over 10 years. Once a nut always a nut.
