HI JB… its Dallas from the other forum… i stopped going there , its over loaded with idiots… too much to bother with… i was viewing an older post https://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/forum/discussion-forums/horse-care/313301-soy-free-ration-balancer-or-vit-min-supplement-protein-replacement I have a friends horse that is allergic to something in the ration balancers. im guessing soy, but not positive on that one… she is IR, but she looked great on progressive grass balancer for about two months, then over the last month she was getting swollen eyes, tearing etc… give her one bute and they would clear up for a few days…then come back again , i finally bit the bullet and stopped everything but hay and alfalfa pellets ten days ago… eyes are clear as a bell, no swelling or tearing… i did it off and on two cycles and everytime i put her on any ration balancer, they start again . she needs topline, shes clyde cross/appy… was always overweight and IR, but now shes dropping … i think its the soy doing that as well… i can’t find much with out soy around me, other than the Naturals from TC, but no one has them near me… hay sucks this year as well… shes twenty one years old , owner is kind of lame as far as paying on time, would the suggestions in that ling still hold? I can’t afford trial and error , I have my own ten to deal with … any suggestions would be great , hope you are doing well !!!

Hey Dallas, I remember you! I hate you’re dealing with some issues, but you did a great job being pretty darn sure it’s something in the balancer. And I agree it’s likely the soy - some IR horses just can’t have soy, or at least not the amount in balancers. Since she was only in the balancer, I wouldn’t recommend the TC Naturals anyway - too many calories. I would consider something like High Point Grass (HorseTech, soy-free, iron-free) or California Trace (regular or Plus), and then potentially adding Nutramino (Horsetech) or Tri-Amino (Uckele, but I’d go with HT for the cookies ) for some additional amino acids. Horsetech will tend you a sample too. The HPG is a bit mineral-y in smell, but none of mine have ever turned their nose up, though 1 would only eat a half serving. Does that all make sense?
