Regarding the horse shopping… I see that you are positive on something ranch bred.
I live in Oregon on a several thousand acre ranch. I have a really, really nice gelding that I bought at auction. He’s from Idaho. I’m going to go get a full sister in blood, and a daughter of a 3/4 sister, two weanlings, in Idaho…because my gelding is really, really nice.
Idaho seller has a three year old, broke/started with ranch riding filly, sibling to my gelding for sale. Less than $5K.
Anyway, you would know that my gelding is a quarter horse from his mind, and how darn cowy he is. Otherwise, if I told you he was German Riding Pony sired, from a KWPN/TB mare you would absolutely believe me. He’s 15.1 or .2, about 1000 lb. He has some very not-quarter horse traits of fabulous withers, big GOOD feet and a springy trot with some reach. A fancy, floaty warmblood mover he is not but he has a natural lead change, a level to uphill build and he jumps (downed trees, etc) really well. I think he’d make a great event horse, and I’m also confident that 2nd level dressage would not be any kind of stretch for him. (I rode through Training level, recognized events, schooled Prelim and 2nd level dressage before becoming a rancher’s wife).
But the mind…and the feet, and legs, and withers. Love this horse and am going to go buy a weanling bred just like him, and one for my friend.
I can give you contact information about the filly. She lives in Idaho, close to the Oregon border at Ontario.
