I know exactly the behavior you’re talking about! I’ve had a couple of horses do the same thing and sadly the only thing that’s helped a bit is to lunge them and then put them back in their stalls for a little bit on the mornings when they walk and turn them out on the mornings when they stand quietly and eat their hay.

Definitely not crazy! If nothing else I get them out and make them back or sidepass towards their pasture until they’re ridiculously obedient and relaxed, then they get to go out. I’m a little much for the unicorn-owning cookie feeder owners, but my shoer and vets love me!
