Torpedo sand: same as Coarse sand?

I know there are regional differences in what sand/materials are called.
FG is wanting to fix muddy footing on the track he drives his Drafts - team up to a 6.
He’s been offered “coarse sand” at roughly 1/3 the cost of torpedo sand.
Has anyone used the coarse with success for this purpose?

It really is going to depend on what each individual person or quarry means by coarse sand. I get a lot of people calling things a LOT of different things.

What is this coarse sand comprised of? Limestone? Something else? If it’s just simply coarse limestone sand, up to something like a 3/8" chip in it, I’d absolutely use it. Manufactured sand is great for horses because it’s angular so doesn’t slip, just gotta watch the dust.

Over here, torpedo sand is something specifically people use for concrete and other little projects and it’s a very particular sand. I know this because the manufactured sand I have is not good enough for the people asking for torpedo sand  I don’t know why your friend would specifically want torpedo sand in the first place, a nice coarse sand would be my preference.

Feel free to PM me if you want.

Thanks & I’ll forward your info.
Friend does simple landscaping as his business & I don’t know why he decided on torpedo sand.
I already told him for footing, sand has to be angular, so if the coarse stuff he’s looking at is as you described it would work & save $$.
