Tota comfort bridle

Can anyone tell me more about these bridles?
TIA

Some people love them. I was curious about them and saw them as a vendor at a show. A friend and I went to the tent and talked to Charles Tota about them for a few minutes. He was standoffish/uncomfortable when we asked him about the product and became rude when it became clear I wasn’t about to cough up $500 for a bridle no questions asked. He didn’t want us touching anything on the table. We left without buying anything.

Yes well that kinda makes sense. I stopped into their store when I was in Wellington a week or so ago because I was told they sold bridles w/o a flash, then realized all of them were the ergonomic type, so I was asking questions and the woman’s attitude was really snippy, she made me feel real stupid. My horse is super sensitive in the nose band area so that’s why I had some questions. Needless to say I did not purchase one. I sent an email a while ago and it still hasn’t been answered!:woman_shrugging:t3:

I have a custom drop noseband from them. I love the product, but I also had a very poor experience with the ordering process.

I have used them as got them from someone who would custom fit them which was nice as my horses do not fit most regular bridles. In the long run, I was not fond of them. They are very heavy. The noseband fits in such a way that a metal piece is snug against the cheek. It caused problems for a horse that had some sharp points (despite having been floated less than six months). Overall, it is much better to buy a bridle and then measure and have the cheek pieces shortened, which is what I have come to do. That is if you can find someone who does such thing but many good cobblers will do it.

He used to offer trials on the nosebands.

my horse seems to go better in the ergo bridles, and after borrowing a double for a rather long time I realized I needed to really purchase my own.

I had been borrowing a tota, so i figured I would buy the same - and hopeful to not spend the full purchase price, I was looking for used or sale

around thanksgiving-christmas there was a double on sale for a great price, so i went ahead and purchased. What I ordered was an OS with crank noseband… what I received was a mix and match OS headstall with FS noseband (and NOT a crank) - and the noseband was so small it wouldn’t buckle. After a bit back and forth, to the point I was going to just send the stupid thing back and get a refund they “found” an OS crank noseband (which was REALLY OS, WAY outside of their specs) to exchange - which ended up being too big.

I ended up buying an OS passier crank strap replacement so it would fit.
Overall, yes i like the bridle, my horse likes the bridle. The nosebands are not interchangeable between bridles (you need the whole headstall), and i do like the quick change browband.

Their customer service was not at all good, I would probably hesitate purchasing anything from them again, its a lot of money (for me at least!) and if something isn’t right (as in, blatantly wrong!) they were really unwilling to fix it
