Total Saddle Fit Cinches

I need some collective COTH wisdom here. I’m looking for a new cinch and I’ve had my eye on the Total Saddle Fit ones for a while. I’d love to hear anyone’s experiences with them! There are a few other threads about the company’s girths and one about a specific type, so I figured it was time to start a new thread.

Unfortunately, I can not decide which type to get. I’m interested in the StretchTec line (elastic insert in the center to give it more stretch as the horse breathe). People seemed to like this one more than the normal type. It only comes in fleece or neoprene. The regular cinch comes in fleece, felt, or neoprene.

I usually use a mohair cinch, or a felt-lined one. Miss Mare is currently a yak, so I’m trying trying to find something that won’t rub or get too hot. Both neoprene and thick fleece seem like they’d get warm, and I’m concerned that grippy neoprene would cause galls. Seems like a love-it-or-hate-it material for some.

I have a client who recently purchased the fleece version of the girth you mention above. It was extremely “fleecey”. In the end, it was bulky and slippery, and she returned it.

I bought a fleece one about 6? years ago to try on my horse that has a very well-sprung ribcage. I thought it would work to get the girth away from his elbow. We went out for our usual ride, which was 4-5 miles out on the trail (mostly trotting and loping) and when I got back and unsaddles, the cinch had cut into his skin on both sides. My horse is a saint and never let on during the ride that anything was wrong.

The problem is that the cinch itself is a HARD plastic material. That’s how it has the shape that it has. Well, the fleece just rolled over on itself, so that hard plastic was cutting a slice into my horse.

I was mortified. I will never use one again.

I will compliment their customer service though. I called them and told them what happened. I didn’t ask but they gave me a full refund and allowed me to send it back, even though I had used it.

I use felt Total Saddle Fit cinch for my gelding. Does the job and seems to be comfortable!
