Total Saddle Fit Girth Cover - changes to fit?

I’d like to try a girth cover on my Total Saddle Fit dressage girth. In recent years, I’ve only clipped my horse’s girth, because that’s the only place he sweats enough for it to be hard to dry and cool him in a timely manner. I’m hypothesizing the leather of the girth keeps the area from breathing, as the area under the saddle pad is rarely damp and even when there is a bit of sweat, there’s much less.

I’ve got one concern - that is a VERY fluffy looking girth cover. Anyone with any experience know if I should expect that much fluff to bulk the girth up? His girth fits well, but it sure seems like I’d also need to buy a bigger girth to put that much fluff under it and have it still fit the same. (Yes, I know they’ve got a great return policy right now, but we’re in the middle of a pandemic and the last item I returned to a company took nearly two weeks to drop off because the local UPS constantly had a line of 6 people standing outside and I was not interested in joining that line…)

I changed to the fleece backing a few weeks ago. I called the company to make sure I was ordering the correct size (they told me to order the same size fleece backing as the girth size). So far I have not noticed it changing the fit. It does seem to come closer to the edge of the pad, but it fits the girth perfectly.

Thanks @IdahoRider!

I was wondering the same - I ordered the fleece cover for my TSF Stretchtec Neoprene girth, which barely reaches the first hole on both sides of the billets when I first put it on, but by the time we’ve warmed up the ends of the girth are almost to the saddle pad. I didn’t want to get a larger girth to accommodate the fleece, so I got a set of girth/billet extenders. Haven’t used them yet because I broke my rib/collapsed a lung just before the cover arrived and can’t ride yet :nonchalance: - just doing in-hand/ground work. Just mentioning the extenders as an alternative to getting a larger girth if the fleece is too bulky with your current girth.

FYI, it changed the fit by maybe one hole and I almost definitely could have tightened it that one hole, but I was being careful about it and only needed it tight enough to stay on a shark-finned TB for 15 minutes.

It did seem to reduce the sweating/increase the breathability, considering it was a very warm day and there was a lot less sweat than our last warm-day hack.

I bought a used 54" TSF girth, it came with a cover, I can barely get it attached to the bottom hole without the girth cover, that triple elastic on the ends is not elastic enough for me to get it attached. I underestimated how stretchy the elastic was on the old 54" I was using…I ordered a 56"…I’m hopeful it will be right, I might end up getting a 58" if I want to use the fleece cover.

On my 28" dressage one, I feel like it made me go down at least one hole on the billets.
