Toto Jr vs Tolegro

I know both of these boys are very young, but does anyone have opinions on the strong points/weak points of each stallion?

We are considering them for a mare that mostly needs a better hind end (stronger with more carrying power).

I’ve never been a fan of Desperados hind end. So would be disappointed if that came through on Toto Jr. That said, Desperados made it to GP with it so he can use what he’s got.

Have you seen the latest video of Tolegro? He’s looking pretty good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGMph7SUTzg

Personally, I like Celle’s new stallion, Talisman, better than either Tolegro or Toto Jr. Talisman will be undergoing his SPT in the fall 2015. He has lovely conformation and very good gaits and was awarded premium stallion at the 2-year-old licensing.

It says he’s only available fresh (I’m assuming that’s not an option for DY.) Nice stallion though!

I saw Toto Jr. go through his licensing and I wasn’t very fond of his hind end. He wouldn’t be my choice to improve a mare in that department.

I also am not a fan of Toto Jr. Saw the licensing and agree that the hind end was a bit lacking. I do love Talisman, the best Totalis so far. I have seen a good variety and he is the real deal. Celle has sometimes in the past not frozen a coming three yr old. He may be available later in the seas or next year.

I’m not loving the way Tolegro moves in trot. I know he’s young but the trot seems hurried and stabbing. I much prefer a bigger, looser trot with greater reach and suspension. His canter however was lovely, very uphill indeed.

Is there a video of Talisman out there?

Ditto to all of the above.

Jennie Loriston-Clarke has a Totilas youngster in the barn, Timolin, that you might check out. I saw riding video of him not long after they started him and was QUITE impressed.

Thanks for all the info. I will pass on the feedback.

Well, kind of bad luck :frowning: so might not be an choice this year :frowning:

What about Governor (Totilas x Jazz)

Love the idea of Talisman, but he hasn’t been performance tested yet.

As for Governor - we don’t think the Jazz influence would be good for this mare.

Who have you bred her to previously, and did the stallion improve the hindquarters ?

Due to the way he was being ridden…

This does not sound like the best news…

Yes, I had heard a rumbling “there are no plans to freeze his semen for export”, and thought at the time things sounded a bit iffy. What a shame.
