Wow the Otterbox / Lifeproof debate is almost as good as Ford / Chevy. Thanks everyone!
I have a lifeproof, my boss has an otterbox, both are great but mine is slimmer so fits in more pockets and I don’t worry about it getting soaked (although I don’t keep a plug in the earbud jack, I lost it ages ago)
Something I discovered about the lifeproof is standard apple earbuds fit in the jack without the converter which I find fantastic. Also it isn’t too hard to get the case off if need be and just today I managed to throw it on concrete with no damage (it has rubberized edges that really absorb shock)
Lifeproof. I’ve dropped my phone so many times and it still looks like brand new. I’ve also run over it with my truck (on accident!) and it was perfectly fine.
Back when I had an iPhone, I had a Lifeproof and it was great. The Otterbox always got too much dust and crap inside the case and I was constantly taking it apart to clean it. I will echo the comment about the audio quality being HORRIBLE though. My fiance has a Lifeproof on his iPhone and he sounds like he’s underwater unless he opens the charger port when he’s speaking.
Now I have a Moto X and they don’t make a Lifeproof for it 
I used the Otterbox Defender for a while, but had the same dust problem as before and the rubber on the case got so yucky at the barn. I recently bought a SUPCASE Unicorn Beetle hybrid case and it is AWESOME. It’s not 100% waterproof, but it fits a lot more snug to the phone than the Otterbox, which means dust under the screen isn’t an issue. it’s also a much slimmer, sleeker design than the Otterbox, making it less bulky to handle. The rubber outer material isn’t as soft, so it doesn’t get gross. I am clumsy and drop my phones a lot on pavement and concrete and have already dropped my phone several times (badly) in this case without issue. The SUPCASE is also way more affordable than an Otterbox!
