Towing with a Sequoia?

A WDH can even benefit a 3/4 ton pickup in many situations, but it’s not a common thing in the horsie world for some reason, while the RV crowd wouldn’t tow without it, even for lighter loads than many folks pull. It’s a strange world we live in sometimes…

Well, the Brenderup is not just a light trailer, it has some features like the low tongue weight and inertia brakes that make it easier to tow.

I am on my second Sequoia. I put 200k miles on the first one and 170 so far on the second one. I imagine I have around 100k towing miles combined between the two. Never even know it is back there.

I tow a 2 horse steel straight load with a 2005 V8 Sequoia and I literally can’t even feel the trailer behind me. I live in Florida through and have ever only hauled in this state.

3 years ago, I was researching vehicles to pull my 2-horse. I was going down to 1 vehicle so my towing vehicle was also going to be my day to day vehicle. I learned a lot about wheel base and weight of the tow vehicle vs the thing being towed. I ended up with the long version of a 3/4 ton Suburban. Leaf springs, a solid rear axle and a weight of 6300 pounds, it was plenty to tow my 2-horse that is 5000 pounds loaded with my horse. It’s a beast of a vehicle for daily use. 12.5 MPG towing the trailer or a loaf of bread. You also want a wheel base of 116" (?) and I think by getting the long version I’m 121". I think I also read that you want your tow vehicle to weigh at least 75% of what you are towing so at 6300 I’m good at pulling roughly 8000 even though it’s rated to pull 9200 pounds. It’s not about towing capacity, it’s all about the panic stop and a horse trailer is going to swap ends with a short, too light tow vehicle.
