Towing with rear-wheel drive, a 3.50 rear end, or? (Edited)

What year is your hubby talking about - the 7.3 we had, and anecdotally from everyone who has had them, says they are bullet proof and that mechanics will kill for them. Ours was an 89 and, admittedly, well maintained, but never gave a minute’s trouble no matter where we hauled, or how loaded it was.
It was a stick shift, 4x4.

It is not cheap to maintain a truck, but costs less over the long term. IMHO.

Keep looking for the 7.3 4x4 F250 Ford.- in this rainy climate you will not regret it when you have to haul into a field. Ours was 23 years old before we sold it. Never a minute’s anxiety.

What year was the last year that engine was made (Tom)? The engine made after that 6.0? was mess. Our son had that one and 13,000 k after the warranty was over it blew up and he was meticulous with is vehicles.[/QUOTE]

7.3’s can be found up to 2003.5 - it’s rare to see an 03 with one though, IME.

SO Heinz is a pro mechanic, works on diesels all the time, both road and farm vehicles and while he prefers his gas engines because he doesn’t do a lot of heavy towing, he admits that IF he were to need/buy a diesel, it would be a Ford. And he’s a diehard Dodge guy.

Hey, Blugal:
keep looking- they’re out there.
Just bought a 2001 GMC Duramax 4x4 for $4500! (yes it runs!!!)
Happy B-day to me!!!
