Toxoplasmosis in cats - sypmtoms?

I am looking for a symptoms list to see if it is something I should test Leonard for. http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/showthread.php?507181-Vets-or-anyone-fever-anorexia-in-5-month-old-kitten. He doesn’t have diarrhea but I read you can get it (toxo) from raw meat and I am concerned because his symptoms started after I fed him a diet that included Stella and Chewy’s, a dried raw food. But he has never had diarrhea so can it be possible?

If the product was freeze dried, this process should kill the Toxoplasma gondii (-20 C and below). They can do blood work to look for the antibodies to the parasite but I’m not sure that it would really provide concrete answers unfortunately.

I typically see neurological symptoms from it and can cause fever of (almost) unknown origin. It’s what some colleagues and I treat for with clindamycin when we don’t have any better answers

One thing I’ve learned with cats is that no two ever see to have the same symptoms. Does he show all the other signs, just not the diarrhea? With as much effort as you’ve put into him so far, I would do the test just to be sure.

Did you ever test for the histoplasmosis? Even if your vet says ‘we don’t have that here,’ you very well still could.

Toxo is nasty nasty nasty when it spreads to your livestock - we’ll never have barn cats again and it wasn’t even our own cats who infected our goats last year.

Sure hope you find a solution to your kitty and get him feeling better!

I think we are going to try Clinda today.

Leonard has fever, anorexia. FIP is high on the list but his labs don’t support it.

no advice - just more Jingles & AO for your dear Leonard ~

  • hoping for a diagnosis and treatment plan soon ~

((hugs)) for his worried family ~

Damn it. I was hoping he’d have tested positive for SOMETHING by now - just so you could start treatment.

Totally out of left field, but have you done allergy tests, food and otherwise? I can’t remember if you said you had or not. Is there a chance of a massive abscess somewhere that you haven’t found yet? I had one who had a tiny nick up on her neck, and the abscess travelled down into her shoulder, hid behind the shoulder blades and muscles (we x-rayed and couldn’t see it) and it erupted almost 2 weeks after first symptoms showed up. Vet said he’d never seen anything like that before. Checked teeth and sinuses to make sure they’re okay?

Teeth/sinus good. Chronic low grade fever shouldn’t go with a food allergy though.

Toxoplasmosis came back negative.
