Wondering if anyone has one of these trucks, and do you like it? Would you recommend it? Will they easily last 200k like the cars?
Max towing is only 6500 for that gen.
You will need to be very conscious of your trailer weight, and what you put in it.
A weight distribution hitch is a must.
Thanks- what year do they start getting to higher towing capacity? Any special model/ features I would need to look for? Also - can tow packages be applied to a used truck?
The new ones, last five years or so, are more like 10,000lbs.
You’re not going to want anything less than a V8 in this particular truck.
It depends what you mean by tow package. If you mean a hitch and wiring? Sure. If you mean the heavier transmission, a beefed up cooling system, possibly even different suspension? (Depends on what make we’re talking here, towing packages vary a bit.) Then it’s often more cost effective to just buy the right truck in the first place.
I’ve got a 2014 Toyota Sequoia and I think it’s rated at 9,000 pounds or so. It tows great. Lots of torque. I have a 2 horse featherlight with DR and you hardly know it’s there

7400lbs.
I stand corrected. That’s what I get for being too lazy to go look up my owner’s manual. Still tows great, though:)

7400lbs. ;)[/QUOTE]
I would also guess that the 7400 may be with a weight-distributing hitch. Without, the towing capacity would be significantly less.
I love Toyotas and have thought seriously about one of the newer, bigger models to replace my F-250 at some point. I would want to do some test-towing first.
I would not use one of the older models for hauling. They just aren’t big enough.
I have a 2002 V8 Toyota Tundra. I hauled my 2 horse Featherlite everywhere with that truck and never had any problems. The trailer weighed 2700 lbs, so I could haul two horses easily. Make sure your brake control is adjusted properly and you should be fine…
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the replies- sorry to have disappeared. It kind of sounds like the Tundras got a little beefier from 2007 on.
…in a major way they got beefier. Completely different truck than the 2000 era platform. (I owned a 2000 and liked it but, it was truly a “light-weight” truck)
