Tractor insurance?

When we bought our tractor, the dealer gave us the impression that our tractor would be covered under our homeowners insurance should anything happen to it. After talking to our insurance company, we found that is not necessarily the case.

Do any of you insure your tractor separately and who do you use? Can we add it to our auto policy? I guess I didn’t research that aspect very thoroughly.

might need a different type of coverage, I checked my insurer they have a small farm/ranch policy that

From small family farms to medium-sized growers and ranches, we can help you secure the coverage to help meet your unique needs.

Farm and ranch policies can include coverage for:

 • Farm homes. Replacement cost coverage of up to 125%.
 • Other farm structures. Offers protection for barns, silos, pens and even fences.
 • Machinery and equipment. Includes borrowed, rented or leased farm machinery.
 • Livestock. Reduces financial loss if animals are stolen or lost due to a collision.

I do not have this type of coverage with them just a standard homeowners. but that coverage includes most of utility items. We did add our horse trailer ti the auto policy at an agreed upon value…for 38 cents a month. (I will go back to see what its says about something like a tractor. Is yours a compact or standard farming thing?

Thirty eight cents, I never thought anything could be bought for that any more.

checked my policy it has a cap of $3,000

$3,000 for motorized vehicles designed or modified to operate at speeds not to s exceed 15 miles per hour and for use off public roads

When I bought my Kubota I got insurance through them, and once it was paid off I chose to continue to insure through Kubota.

I have a policy with ALFA. I have all my insurance with them and it is cheap ( maybe $60 a year). It just covers theft, etc.

We have our tractor as listed equipment on or “farm estate” policy. Not to expensive. All our policies -farm, auto, excess liability - are all with the same carrier. With the multi-policy discounts that they offer, the whole package is far cheaper than having different policies with different carriers. Coverage and service is excellent. For the few claims we’ve had over the years, they have responded very quickly.

My insurance company has what they call an “Inland Marine” policy. I have all the tractors, their implements, and the dump cart insured on that policy. It costs ~$180/annually.

They are insured against theft and natural disaster damage. They are not insured for any sort of mechanical failure:)

Do you have your horses at home? Does the current policy cover you for that liability? If not and they won’t , you may want to look into getting a farm policy. They can be written to cover home, barns/storage structures, equipment, tack, trailer, liability of horses.

Depends on what happened to it? I’m sure the coverage would be different if a tree fell on it versus you flipped it while using it or drove it into the side of the barn by accident.

that would be a “casualty loss”… unless the tree was a neighbor’s a standard Homeowner’s policy would have excluded or limited the coverage for a farm tractor …my homeowner’s would only cover $3,000 since it a vehicle design for off road under 15MPH max speed…basically about the value of small riding lawn mower

Read the policy. as there are Great variations in coverage from company to company

Our homeowners insurance covers tractors up to a certain hp. My small Kubota is covered, but have to have a rider added for my larger one.

My point is the same as yours. It depends.

I believe my umbrella insurance would cover my loss if a tree fell on my tractor. But if I was watching my york rake instead of my FEL, and hit the barn with it and broke something…I don’t think that would be covered by any insurance.

Farm policies are mainly designed to cover those in business to produce crops/livestock. A better fit would be a policy designed for small estates

I just signed our new policy this morning adding our new tractor. Our agent did an umbrella policy that covers the tractor and all implements, the horse trailer, and our cars and home. Ended up being less than what Kubota’s insurance would have cost.
