:…at least he won’t die on a xcountry course?
Good for them for recognizing he needed a different job and facilitating the switch.
Good for this horse…much better suited there, lucky rider.
Maybe Boyd will by Selena’s horse that is for sale - would be a nice match

What an obnoxious thing to say. I could just as easily say, hopefully they won’t drug him to death, lock him in a stall, keep him on the road all the time and work him til he drops/can’t do it anymore, then unload him on a private school in exchange for a hefty charitable donation and then hope for the best when the school can’t use him anymore. But that would be an a$$ thing to say. So I won’t.
On a more serious and polite note, I think he’ll make a lovely eq horse, and I hope he enjoys his new job and I hope his new rider gets a lot of enjoyment out of him. I do hope they don’t change his name, because he’s accomplished a lot with that name and it would be cool to watch him compete at finals one day and know that it was him. One of the Fernhill horses got sold recently and they already changed his name before the first show. If the press hadn’t mentioned it you’d have never known it was a horse we all knew.

A First Romance. It would be interesting to see if Silva could make more headway with his dressage scores. He’s a beautiful horse for sure.
Agreed - lots of potential there!
Thanks, NCRider and Jealoushe.
I too hope they don’t change his name! Although his cute face is pretty hard to forget :). Lucky kid for sure and I hope the horse enjoys this new career.

I am guessing part of the comment comes from him having to retire twice XC and Boyd indicating in the linked article that TA really struggled with stamina. I would think that a horse that is struggling with stamina on XC has a greater chance of having an injury on XC. Fatigue can lead to a bad jump, bad step etc… Regretfully since XC has solid fences this increases the chance for catastrophic injury. Now maybe Caitlyn was being starky about eventing in general.
It certainly appears that eventing at that level was not a good fit for Trading Aces.

Which Fernhill horse? Do you have an article link, I must have missed it.
I meant no insult to Selena or her mother. I think Selena’s a great rider. But having an FEI dressage rider schooling his event horses on a regular basis has certainly not hurt Boyd’s dressage scores. I doubt Selena would take offense to that.

Perhaps not. She may, however, take offence that you have referred to her as Serena three times when her name is Selena. She has ridden in the 2008 Olympics, won a team silver at WEG in 2010 and another team silver at Pan Ams in 2011 and has ridden at Badminton. Her name is Selena in case you forget.
Also a smart move that they sold him in Wellington! I’m sure they got a nice chunk of change for him, which they can now invest in a horse more suited to upper-level eventing. And I do hope the new owners keep Trading Aces’ name, too, as it would be nice to continue following his career–he is a lovely horse.

But yours isn’t quite as pithy, NCRider.

I also hope they continue to show him under the same name, to make it easier to keep track of his accomplishments across the disciplines. I’m not totally against changing names (and my appendix QH events under a name other than the one on his papers because it’s just that bad!) but when a horse has a significant performance record I think it’s only fair to let them keep the same name and therefore get credit for everything they have done.
I’m glad Trading Aces’ connections did what was best for him and gave him a career change … He’s a lovely, talented horse but he just doesn’t seem to have the stamina to be successful at the 4* level. Hopefully he will make a great eq horse for his new connections.
