Trail rider boarding barns in N lake county IL, SE Wiconsin

Hello,
Anyone know good mostly trail rider boarding barns in Northern lake county, IL or SE Wisconsin.

Anywhere from Vernon Hills on up to Kenosha. Nothing fancy, just a nice, inexpensive place with trail access.

Possibly people who may foxhunt or do field trails-but primarily trail based riding barn.
Thanks!

Are you in the Bristol County or “Northern” Illinois Horse groups on Facebook? People are always posting openings at barns, and you would be able to find out which are located on or near trail systems. Good luck!

If you are willing to look in the Caledonia area, there are tons of barns that have access to the Caledonia trails.

Thanks, haven’t joined Facebook yet! I am in Lake county, close to Libertyville. Lots of barns here, but mostly Hunters etc and quite pricey.

I moved here a few years ago and was used to paying 300+ a month for semi-pasture. Nothing below 500-600+ for a decent barn here. Pasture is lower, but not sure I want to leave a horse out in the winter in this weather.

Bristol, Pleasant Prairie would be fine. I did see Don bar farms which is reasonable, but would have to cross a busy highway through traffic lights to ride or get a trailer. I have seen horses do it from there-but I am chicken. Just a barn that rides out to trails would be ideal. Can’t afford a truck and trailer now.

Caledonia seems somewhat far, but any links to barns, can see if commutable. Thanks!

I board my horse in Bull Valley (next to Woodstock), and there is a GREAT trail system there. You do have to jump through hoops to become a member but totally worth it. You could inquire at Bull Valley Stables, or depending whether you need an arena or not I know people who used S&G stables. There are also a number of private places surrounding the trails, but from what I can figure out you have to “know” people.

Caledonia is also a really nice system, I have a friend with a private farm on the trails, but don’t know of any boarding barns in the area.

I boarded at Don Bar for a couple months years ago and would recommend you steer clear, unfortunately.

I’ve never been there but some of the boarders where I’m at now came from Imanok and they are near Don Bar but closer to the trails. I think they used to ride across the street to get to the trails.

There are various boarding barns in Kenosha county in the $400-$500 range but not really access to state park/trails.

Wedgewood Stables is right on a trail system and not too far from Vernon Hills, maybe 20 minutes. There are several farms in Woodstock that are on the Bull Valley trails but that’s a longer drive - could be an hour on bad traffic days. I used to live in McHenry and worked in Vernon Hills so I know the commute well.
