Trail Rides Texas

My husband and I are travelling thru southern Texas, mostly the Gulf coast as far as Kingsville (hope to tour King Ranch), also heading abit around South side of Houston, Atwater Praire Chicken Refuge, (other hobby is birdwatching) then towards Big Bend. My birthday is coming up and DH told me he would take me for a ride. May do beach ride, but also looking for maybe 2 - 3 hour, very flexible. I am dearly missing my own girl, home in cold Ontario. So an experienced rider and my husband has done several rides over the years, would consider him a beginner. Also, I drive my,horse, so places for carriage rides is a possible. Also, anyone in those areas would love a meet up? Have not been near a horse since I was able to play with Cartfall’s ponies in Florida.

Any info, advice, PM also welcome.

Thank you in advance for any help.

We have done competitive trail rides in the Big Bend area, truly a spectacular area. There are some stables that conduct rides near the National Park.

To me it was funny the ranch owner we were at was kind of apologetic saying their ranch was one of smaller ranches in the area as it was only 170,000 acres.

My husband and I rode with the Big Bend stables at Study Butte, just outside the park. He and I did a 2 hour sunset ride and then I did a 3 hour the next day. It was great to be on and near the horses. The ride were walk only, but up and down some hills. The horses are well cared for and carried good weight. Great holiday!!!

I’m not entirely sure on options if you don’t own a horse or bring one, but I can highly recommend Lake Sam Rayburn in Southeast TX! I have ridden there and they have miles and miles of very fun trails with some beaches! best of luck!
