Trail riding groups Lexington, Ky area

Bye bye Chronicle Forums. Thank you very much for the responses but this type of communication isn’t for me.

I just bought a trail horse and would love someone to ride with. There are so many places to go and quite a few organized trail rides for fun or a cause around here. There is also a Facebook group called Kentucky Trail Riders and Campers that show a lot of pretty trails. Send me a message and maybe we can get together!

It’s not me that wants to fly down the trails, it’s the horse. Might be the nature of some gaited horses to hurry. Slowgait doesn’t seem to be in his vocabulary.
The ones I know of are Harrodsburg Back Country Horsemen, they have group rides and a Facebook page, Camargo Hunt has had some very fun open to the public hunter paces on property not too far from Dry Ridge, Maybe Morgan and I went out at Eagle Creek Horse Motel in Sadieville, which is small but you can wind around in there a lot and rack up a few miles that way.

I’m down for the count I’m afraid, no truck and Speedy the pony not a good combo.

Thank you for the reply. I was actually a member of CH so am very familiar with their paces in Owen County. I will check out Harrodsburg Back Country Horsemen.

Will do.

Hi there, I probably live near you. I’m retiring in a few weeks and am hoping to do a lot more trail riding than I’ve had time for. I ride a little Arab. I’d love to meet you sometime to see if our horses would be compatible.

There’s a local group in the area called Spokes & Spurs. When it was created a number of years ago, it had a fairly active riding component. My husband and I were among the founding members. He drove, I rode. Now it’s just carriage driving. I’d love to resurrect the riding part, but I need help. It’s a nice group of prople.

I’m in Lexington/ Gtown and occasionally in need of a trail riding partner. I currently foxhunt but also have a few reasonably steady youngsters that need more trail miles. I have a bad sense of direction so I usually try to pair up with someone who knows where they are going! I know there are actual groups out there and I’m sure they have a lot of fun, but there are also a lot of folks who casually meet out at Masterson Station or other locations for hacks or trail rides.

Welcome to Kentucky. I live a couple of hours south of you, so probably a little far to connect often for riding. I do make it to the Scott County Reservoir to ride once or twice a year. It’s a nice place to ride but an unpleasant drive to get there if you happen to encounter another horse trailer coming in the opposite direction.

I belong to the previously mentioned Fort Harrod Back Country Horsemen and met most of my riding buddies there. I highly recommend the group; although, the Central Kentucky Back Country Horsemen is the chapter that is probably closer to where you will be living.

If you are interested in hauling a few miles south to ride, let me know. I’m always interested in meeting up with new riders who don’t ride gaited horses. I also enjoy horse camping.

I live in Sadieville, just north of Georgetown. I event, but do quite a bit of trail riding and conditioning hacks, we try and go somewhere at least once a week in good weather. The reservoir is great for trail riding and conditioning on the hills, its just hard to find if you’ve never been. I still don’t know the road names, I just do it by recognizing where to turn. Masterson is also fabulous, and if you have half a day at least, Shaker village is bar none the best place for trail riding with excellent views, trails and fun! It just takes a good hour plus to get out there from north of lexington. PM me if you want a trail buddy, my roommate and I always love company

Dear ReSomething

I have extra horses and 262 acres here. I received a “private message” with very complicated directions to Scott County Reservoir . . . was that from you? Sorry, I keep seeing people refer to PM (which I assume stands for private message), but not sure I know how to do that. I will get educated one of these days. Thanks for responding.

Ginger, congratulations on your retirement! If you would like to “PM” me (which I think means you send a message to my personal email, we will get together!

Hi 2foals,

Would you be willing to send me your contact info privately? I have a nice farm here for trail riding but would happily go to Masterson or another venue. I have two semi-retired field hunters I trail ride and a former show hunter who likes the trails, too. Would be nice to create a little contact list of local trail riding buddies. Thank you for responding.

Hello Bintniteza

Thank you for responding and I will check out the Central Kentucky Back Country Horsemen. Some of my Cincinnati friends and I rode at Shaker Village June, 2014. It was one of the most pleasureable riding experiences I have ever had and I would love to return some time.

If anyone knows the directions to the Scott County Reservoir - please pm me!
