Trail riding in South Orleans MA

Hello!

I’m looking for recommendations for a public trail riding place near South Orleans MA. I will be in town visiting family and would like to ride!

The last time I visited and rode there was almost 20years ago. But I had a great experience at a small barn that used draft horses. It was a bunch of younger girls that evented I think. I would happily go back, but I don’t remember the name.

Thank you

I can’t think of any public facility in that area that offers trail rides.

There is a place, I think it’s called the Esperanza company, that offers/offered beach rides in Sandwich. That’s the only place I can think of.

Haland in Falmouth is pretty close to you. I haven’t talked to them in ages, but the website looks promising: http://halandstable.com/details.html#Trail

There’s a popular horse trail on Sandy Neck Beach; Esperanza (noted above) does them in summer; I’m not sure where they are, but since Hammersmith Farms (corner of 134 and 6A) has had a “Trail Rides” sign out all summer I’m assuming that’s where they’re located. (Otherwise you could ask there too!) There’s a hard-core trail ride barn in Grafton(!) that trailers down there on weekdays as well: http://ridgevalleystables.com/capecodride.html

Your timing is good; beach closures for endangered shorebirds are just winding up for the year so there’s a lot more beach available.

Check out the bulletin board on equinesite.com, it’s local to NE and has a specific MA board- you may get more local responses.

I was wondering what happened to Melpet Farm in Dennis. I rode there when I was a teenager, which was a very long time ago. I see they are now a gated community, versus the gaited community where you could trail ride.

Thank you for the help everyone!
