Does anyone have aluminum rims on a larger type horse trailer? I have a 4 horse Slant with living quarters and my husband is beside himself that I won’t put aluminum rims on it. I had a bad experience with aluminum rims on my dually when the lug holes wallowed out, lug nuts sheared off, and a wheel came off while I was driving it. I now have steel rims and stainless steel simulators on my dually , the simulators are a pain in the ass but make my husband happy.
I currently have steel rims with simulators on my trailer, but one of the simulators recently came off going down the road after hubby had changed that tire, so hubby is bitching that I will have to buy a new set of simulator since you can’t buy just one. Looking at aluminum rims online, their weight capacity seems to be maxed out around 4000 pounds per wheel. I think the GVWR of my trailer is more than 16000 pounds. When I point that out, hubby insists that all the new trailers are coming with aluminum rims. I don’t pay a lot of attention to other people’s trailers, since my self-esteem is not derived from having flasher stuff than everybody else, so I don’t know if this is true.
suggestions?
