So my trailer has two built in saddle racks in its tack room. They are designed for a western saddle and my English saddles don’t seem sit correctly on them. Not a huge deal for short trips.
The problem is my sisters saddle is stored in there. After eight months the saddle dents in it from the racks. Luckily it’s a foam based saddle and after a few weeks it’s mostly came back. However I don’t really have anywhere else to put the saddle. Because of how big the current saddle racks are putting a pad or towel over it won’t help.
Is there any portable saddle racks or ones that can be mounted on a trailer that people recommend?
Have you thought about getting one of those fold up style saddle racks for daily use and just taking it out/lean against the wall when you use the trailer?
I got a huge piece of dense foam and zip tied it over my trailer saddle rack. Saves the saddle and my head when I stand up under the rack.
I just removed the saddle rack in my new-to-me Sidekick gooseneck. I was poorly designed and the racks were too high and too close together…
I am installing a 2x4 at appropriate height on the wall, set off the wall slightly with shims, and will hang one of the portable tube-type racks on it. I like the tube style because it fits up in the gullet and does not press on the panels at all.
Saddle mattresses if you prefer to buy or dense foam over the rack with Velcro straps.
Or you could replace the racks with the “Saddle Boss” style. My trailer came with them and they are plastic shaped like a horse’s back. My XXW English saddle stays solid and I’ve had no problems with flocking or foam getting compressed.
In my trailer and in the barn I cover the tubes for the saddle rack with pipe insulation.

I have had to put a few strategic wraps of duct tape on the one in the barn since I use that one much more than the trailer. The self sealing part was popping apart in a few spots from pulling the saddle off the rack.
I splurged and got the rubber rather than foam. I got it at my local Lowe’s
