I bought 2 brand new 2024 Trails West trailers July 2023. One is a 4 horse gooseneck and the other is a 3 horse bumper pull. They both seem to have identical electrical issues when it comes to the exterior and interior lights. There are 3 lights above the door in the back where the horses load and the far right light is out and everything else on the right side flickers. It doesn’t affect the actual lights needed for traffic laws like the blinkers or back up lights. Also the interior lights to the tack room, horse area, and the bright lights to see what you’re doing don’t work. Of course this is after the 1 year warranty. I’ve called trails west directly to see if this is a common enough issue that I can be directed how to fix it so I can save money on diagnostics at the local place I bought it. Wanted to check here to see if anyone already troubleshooted this and if not I will reply back with what Trails West has to say and what the ultimate solution is.
We had this exact problem and it ended up being a fuse needed in our F150 truck. The fuse is for interior trailer/RV lights/power and was supposed be included with truck paperwork if you have a tow package, it does/did not come installed for a reason I forget. Was a cheap and easy fix but took a while to figure it out - I had the trailer inspected twice before I thought to look at the truck.
Do you use the same truck with both trailers?
This sounds like it might be a ground issue between the truck and trailer, not necessarily an issue with the trailer.
Both trailers have been pulled with 3 different trucks.
They’re all Rams
I am thinking a bad ground. Not the ground at the connector to the truck, though.
Most trailer builders use the metal body of the trailer as the ground for lights. There is a single power wire going to each light, but there is just a short single ground wire at the light fixture screwed into the trailer body. And some trailer lights just use the mounting screws for each light as grounds; no ground wire at all. Each of these individual grounds can be victims of corrosion. So checking each individual inoperative light’s ground is what I’d do.
These are 2024s? I wouldn’t be doing squat except bringing them back to the dealer.
Besides checking grounds as pointed out above. Trace the wires and look for loose wires or rodent damage.
Thank you for stating that. My wife just hooked her truck to my trailer and the exterior and interior lights work. I just bought this truck in May and I thought it had the trailer package in it. I suppose I will have to check for this fuse!
