Trainer for young hunter in Ocala?

Next winter, I am hoping to send my youngster to Ocala for a couple months (not necessarily to WEC, just the Ocala area). I would like to find a trainer who would keep him in a F/T program where he will continue to progress. It would be great if he could go to WEC a time or two for experience, but I do not want him to live at the showgrounds.

I know Kim Burnette and Kyle Dewar, but Kyle doesn’t do a lot of hunters, and they’re both higher end than my goals/needs warrant. (Although I probably should consider Kim…she’s lovely and that farm is beyond gorgeous). I’m using my network, of course, but I thought it couldn’t hurt to ask here.

I’m headed to Ocala later this month, and thought I could use the time to scope out the possibilities. I want to find someone who provides excellent care, training, and sufficient turnout.

P.S. If it matters, I’m making this decision because I’m tired of riding in the cold, wet, dark winter. I’d rather him be somewhere nice, and I’ll come down to ride some weekends.

As someone that has a young hunter, I’m happy to PM some suggestions.
That being said, trainers down here are EXTREMELY busy during circuit, especially if they have kids/AO’s that have to go HITS for points but also want to show at WEC.
My suggestion would be to plan to send horse down in October/November and give them time to get acquainted prior to the madness. So I’d recommend sending early and leaving into April so that they can get more 1:1 time after circuit, as well.

I would love for you to pm me some suggestions. And thank you for the insight!

I am spending Jan-March in Ocala. (I live in Colorado). I agree that the trainers are extremely busy during the circuit. Maybe come in November/December if possible. WEC has been a great experience for my young hunter…so much activity and so many horses. He’s really grown up a lot. I’ve also attended several clinics while here. Excellent exposure for a young horse and lots of learning for me!

I love the program/barn where I am staying for the winter. There are lots and lots of choices though. Happy to share what I’ve learned via PM.

Ocala was on my bucket list, and I’m so glad I decided to come…nothing quite like being in the center of so much equine activity.

You might also look into some trainers doing the local shows if you want more opportunities for miles. My old trainer runs the Local Champions Tour, fabulous facility and courses, well managed, and I am sure they’d be happy to share who’s been bringing hunters to their shows. You’ll get A show course experience without the exorbitant costs.

Morgan Ward / Morlynn Farm. No clue about the farm setup in FL, but I had a friend send her a horse for a summer up north and was happy.
