Trainers/barns in Washington State...

Looking at moving to WA…not 100% on the location yet, but most likely in the Vancouver area. Potentially the Olympia/Tacoma area as well, just depends on jobs…

In any case, what can y’all tell me about the eventing scene up that way? Any barn/trainer recommendations for a low level amateur on a budget?

I’m going to be moving that way too in a year or so, roughly the same area. Let me know what you find!

Check the Area VII adult riders FB page and also the YR page some names you might want to know Anni Grandia, Anne Ryan, Jonathon Elliott, John Camlin, Anna Collier, Anne Carr

Near Tacoma, Asia Thayer or Hannah Knaebel. I travel 3-5 hours to work with them

I’m in the Vancouver area and used to board with Anna Collier if you have questions.

Meika Descher is amazing if you get a chance to ride with her, she is in Lake Stevens. Her barn is Polestar and it’s very nice. She is incredibly kind, patient and fun.

Suzy & Jonathan at Aspen Farms are also fabulous, they are in Yelm. Great people, nice venue.

WA was a great area to event in and the people were very welcoming and open (that’s true of most eventers though :D). Feel free to message me if you have any questions and I’ll be happy to give you the contacts I have from out there.

There’s not a whole lot close to Olympia, besides for a couple of dressage barns. You are going to be better off up a bit further north towards Tacoma.

second for Meika Decher at Polestar. my trainer rides with her as well. this area (Portland/Vancouver) is pretty good for eventing so i’m sure you can find something.

Anna Collier is in Ridgefield and is amazing. Joanne Emerson at Skyline Equestrian is great for lower-mid level riders and it’s a great, fun barn with lots of comraderie. She’s in North Plains, Oregon. They would be your closest to Vancouver. John Camlin is in Onalaska, so closer to Olympia. John and Susie Elliot are in Yelm, again, closer to Olympia, but I don’t know if they offer boarding or just training.

Another vote for Anna! She is an awesome instructor and really nice person. I took lessons from her as a young rider and only had good experiences. Her barn is really close to Vancouver, and there is always great group of people riding there.
