I am going to UF this fall and I really need to start thinking about trainers in Gainesville. Does anyone know of any good fei trainers or at least a good fei rider who could ride my horse or horses if I didnt have time. I am a young rider with a decent amount of experience but want to learn as much as possible. Also does anyone know of any good barns or at least trustworthy barns that does a decent amount of turnout near the main UF campus? Thanks so much!
Petra Wilder is there, you could try looking her up.
I don’t know about a decent amount of turnout as I have not made it over to her new place but Greta Wrigley has made her way and relocated to Alachua, which isn’t far from Gainesville. She is known for working with Arabians but will take any horse.

I have ridden with Sharon jerdeman since i moved to Gainesville in 1999. I have progressed from Intro to showing I-1…so I of course think she is a great trainer. Currently he is at Everglades Equestrian in Micanopy…which is close to UF and has alot of students as boarders. Feel free to PM me for more info.
Don’t mean to hijack the OP’s post, Heather, how old would Shark Lee be this year? He’s up there in his 20’s, right? Owner is real close to retiring him due to his and her health, I can’t remember what the current problem is with poor Sharkie but we are going to FW our farrier on to her as he worked wonders with our foundered mare.
Sharkie is owned by a friend of mine now. He is getting up there. She showed him first and some second (I think) last year, but I have been told that he is very near retirement…
PM me if you want her phone #.

www.mistymorninghounds.com is very close to campus and offers boarding
It’s a great facility, with foxhunting on the premises
Erin Brinkman is in Gainsville area (Wellborn), I did a working student positions with her and thought she was fabulous
Awwww, Sharkie, my first dressage horse and a special boy! He really was my inspiration for breeding german Riding Ponies. One day when I was wrestling with some 17+hh WB I was leasing I thought, “I had the most fun with Shark Lee”. For those who do not know him, he is a 14.2hh arabian gelding that had a fan club following;) So, I have again downsized and am having a blast. Glad to know he has a good retirement home.
Sharon Jerdeman
I’ve known Sharon for years and she trains 2 of my mares. One mare is showing at PSG and the other at 2nd level. If you are interested in showing, she will prepare you very well. Going to a show with her is a good start toward winning. The small nuances are stressed.
I would highly recommend her. There are some others that are convenient to Gainesville. Send me a PM and I will pass on the names.

pat deasy is just outside of gainesville in archer. she is very good.
we have bill woods that comes here twice a week for lessons, he is a dressage judge and upper level dressage rider. we are eventers but need the dressage help. very nice guy, love the way he rides/teaches. all of my boarders are UF students.
welcome to the ocala/gainesville area, and good luck.
OMG I knew Shark Lee when he was a baby, probably long before you guys.
He hunted with us for a while and then turned his attention to dressage.
It is killing me ,I cant remember the name of the lass that started him in dressage, will ask hubby later.
I often wondered what happend to her too.
I would love to see Sharkie again,he was such a character.
Cindy was his first owner. After the breeder.
Yes, C Hammond was her, they(Her and husband?) moved to Alaska and are now back in FL…She is thinking about taking Shark Lee back to officially retire him, and, she’s still in the horses…Last I knew she had just bought a really nice grey Arab from Greta and had…3 others? So she is still up with the horses!
When did she get married?
She is such a nice person, but I dont know her by that name.
What part of Florida is she in now.
Not sure when they got married, I just know she is married lol. As far as where, I believe they are in Howie In The Hills.
