Trainers in lower mainland bc

I know it’s a bit of a long shot but I was wondering if anybody could provide some insight into trainers/stables in the lower mainland of BC. I am looking to get back into the saddle after 15+ years. I have done a bunch of research; however, there is quite a few options out there and quite frankly I don’t know where to even start. I would obviously require someone with some school horses and either in Vancouver, Burnaby, Delta, or Richmond. My goal is to have fun and maybe (eventually) do some low level hunters/jumpers. Barns here are opening up there lesson programs again so I would love some suggestions on who has a good reputation etc.

Thanks!

I will PM you. Sorry, it was a “visitor message”, because I don’t know what I am doing LOL!

Eliza Hunt, Obsidian Hunter/Jumper in Delta has lease horses sometimes. No real knowledge of her other than that. Good luck.

Contact Cheryl and Kassidy Keith.

Thanks!

Not sure on status of these barns due to covid but here are a bunch of names/stables.

Unicorn stables (delta /Burnaby)
Crescent stables (delta)
AB Equestrian (Amanda barbillion) (delta)

You could talk to Southlands riding club though I don’t know how many trainers have lesson horses down there. Robyn Hunt and Kelsey Campbell or Tanya Rosen .

Hope those help. Probably can find more if needed.

I think once you narrow it down by barns that have school horses in the area you outlined you will find there aren’t actually that many options so it’s quite doable to have trial lessons at several of the barns and see which is a good fit for you.

One thing to consider if you are looking at Southlands is the club membership which ads to the lesson cost. Or some of the instructors will teach out of a barn with a home ring but they are outdoor rings so you’re at the mercy of the weather. Not such a big deal in the summer, but not much fun in winter.

Private messaged you

I’m out closer to the valley so I don’t have personal experience with barns/coaches out your way other than in passing at shows, but the ones listed above have good reputations. I have personally ridden with Tanya Rosen and she was a phenomenal coach, but I don’t know where her “home base” for teaching is these days.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I am going to start reaching out to some of these trainers about their programs. It’s unfortunate that I need someone with school horses available; however, I’m really in no shape at all to lease or buy without building up my skills again.

Not sure what Twin Oaks in Richmond has? They have 50 stalls just not sure if they have any lesson horses available.

I bought my first horse from them. Their trainer (one of their trainers?) Kim Rose turns out stellar horses and is just a fun person. I’ve always wanted to lesson with her but the drive is just too much for me to commit to!

It’s mainly show barn though I think Gary Brewster has a couple horses to half lease. And he does coach a wide range of students- super super trainer!

Kim Rose is awesome and she’s mainly out of Greystone Stables right now. Still teaches but doesn’t have any lesson horses right now. She mainly has young sale horses right now.

Side note: do wonder if any of us have run into each other in real life since we seem to be in the same circles.

I often think this as well

It’s possible! I’m based over on the Island but hoping to frequent Tbird again once things open up more
