Training Level Freestyle Question

Okay, I decided to do a training level freestyle class for my next schooling show for fun. It’s challenging to put together a routine. I have a question. On the Technical Execution elements, it lists, “Serpentine in working trot with loops no smaller than 15 meters.” So my question is, do you have to do your three loops in both directions? Or just one time across the arena with your three loops fulfills the requirements? With most elements, for instance trot circles, they specifically list one to the right and one to the left. So I was just a bit confused.

Thanks!

One serpentine/ time across in just one direction would fulfill that requirement.

The only ones you have to repeat each way are the ones that are marked with boxes for both the R and the L, as you noticed.

Awesome, thank you so much for your quick response! I appreciate it.

Silverbridge is correct, and I would add that it’s a lot less confusing if you do the three loop serpentine as it is in the T3 test, using the full arena. Even though it states “no smaller than 15 meters,” it is hard to follow when it’s an unexpected size.

(I’ve scribed for Pony Club that requires freestyles to qualify for national championships, so lots of Training level freestyles. The judges don’t always realize there was a serpentine when it’s smaller circles, less loops, ect.)

Are you using a small arena or a standard arena? In a small arena (40m), the “no less than 15 m” would limit you to a TWO loop serpentine.

Thanks, all. Actually I am using the small arena, and I had realized the 15M requirement would make it impossible to do three loops, so I contacted my show secretary, and she checked with the judge, and it’s okay for me to do the three loops, which will be slightly smaller than 15-meters. Maybe it’s more flexible since this is a virtual show, and we are allowed to use the small arena. So I will be doing the smaller 3-loop serpentines for one length of the arena.

Since there was already a thread about this, I’m hijacking it instead of starting a new one. I’m working on a Training Level freestyle, but I can’t find anything anywhere on if you have to use a small arena or if you can use a standard, i.e. use the letters other than AFBMCHEK. Does anyone know?

It looks like DR126.2.f.10 says FreestyleClasses must be in a standard arena.

Here is a Guidelines sheet from USDF. Also says must be in standard arena.

Good luck! This was my original thread. I just volunteered at a rated show last weekend, and all the Freestyles were in the standard-sized arena, even Training.
