You should look at Titulus. He is a gorgeous stallion with world class eventing bloodlines. Two of his offspring were in the German Championships this year, and one won a class. He has a fabulous temperament and is currently being ridden by an amateur in the jumpers. He too is black.

Just my two cents…check out Tagaelen. He stands in Canada and isn’t well known here, but quite the mover and jumper. I bought a foal by his this year and wow, what a temperament and mover. Too young to see the foals jumping ability, but he sure has it. His owner Kelley is wonderful as well. He is apporved in ATA and numerous other Canadian registries.

OK, I’m taking a deep breath and posting this thread…please be gentle!
I am planning to breed my mare either this coming Spring or next year. She is a 1998 Black Trakehner, 16.3hh and my love! I bought her in 2006 when I lived in Germany and brought her back with me, she’s a St Pr St and Verband Pr St and won her 4 year old mare’s test over there. She had a Grafenstoltz colt at 6 (not maiden).
We evented for a couple years and are now doing straight dressage, working on our bronze and schooling 2nd and 3rd level over the winter. We would be significantly farther along if not for a couple of injuries (not work related) over the years which lost me about 2.5 of the last 5 years.
I would love input on a Trakehner or TB stallion for her. My hope is to breed something to event (hopefully upper level) but Plan B would be dressage.
Temperment wise, I’m fine with a hot ride, so long as it’s not hot and mean She’s screw herself into the ceiling hot and I’m ok with that, because she’s also the smartest horse I’ve ever dealt with and has no desire to get me off or hurt me. I want a horse that (like her) is smart and wants to work.
My biggest priorities conformation wise would be a strong topline, good high neck set (without that dip before the withers) and a naturally balanced way of going uphill. Also, I don’t want to breed for anything longer than she is in the back. She is built uphill, but tends to carry her chest lower than she could, so I’d love some help from a stallion in that area. I’m 6 feet tall, so need a baby in the 16.1 plus range…
OK, thank you for reading so far! Here are links to her pedigree and some conformation shots. If it would help, I have a stallion list I’m considering, I could post that and get pros and cons from people…

Thank you!![/QUOTE]
Just sent you a PM! Hope it helps!
Thank you all for the continued positive replies!
Titulus is on my list, I will have to look at Tagaelen…
Sea Accounts xx is also quite nice, I will have to look into the registration options. I want the foal to have the best registry/inspection options possible. That’s why I’m sticking with the Trakehners for now…once I see what she produces, we may look to get her approved elsewhere (KWPN)…
Schiffon is also one I need to look into more, I know he has nice dressage, but am not sure about his jumping background/traits.
Thanks! Of course once I get a decent short list, then I have even more work to do!
Trakehner mares I think can be bred to approved Trakehner, Arabian, Shagya, Anglo or Thoroughbred stallions. Anglo-Trak (meaning one parent was TB) can only be bred to a Trakehner stallion. (Same for Arab-Trak). There is only 1 3/4 TB mare in the ATA, and that was an exception, not the rule. Your mare is sired by a TB stallion, so she can only be bred to a Trak stallion (if you want to get the foal inspected, etc).

This is true (and my mare is the 3/4 TB mare ). But as my mare proves it can be done. She would go into the PSB book not OSB. Not saying it is easy though.
A little info on Fandango and Pavarotti-
I think both are still available. I am pretty familiar with both their get.
The Fandangos have all had really great temperaments. The ones I’ve seen by and large have good toplines and shoulder/neck sets. My young horse is by Fandango out of a large mare who reminds me of yours. He has a great topline, and very big movement with a lot of “air” time. He is going to stick to dressage.
The Pavarottis are well-tempered too. We have one heavy set guy, but his dam is fairly big. The older one I know is leggy and fairly refined, out of TB cross mare I think. He is destined for dressage, but could easily be a jumper. The other is small, but was born early. Good luck!
I appreciate the info about registration, so I guess for this breeding, I’ll be looking at just Trakehner stallions. I want to keep my hoop jumping to a minimum on this first one as I learn the ropes with my girl…
Thanks for the info on Fandango and Pavarotti! I have had a hard time finding out about them. I appreciate it!

That would be my recommendation lol. I mean you could breed to an Arabian approved stallion, and register HA, but if you want ATA, I’m pretty sure you want to go with a trak stallion. While hoops can be fun to jump through… not worth it imo.
Hi!
Sorry late to the discussion, was sick over the holidays and off email
To address your question about Schiffon and jumping, he was never really bred to strictly jumper mares in Germany, but he finished 10th of 32 in jumping at his 100 day test (all breeds). His stallion sons/grandsons have all done well in free jumping and in their testings. He has one gelding son I know of that had high placings in S-jumping. I have pictures of all of these horses that I could email. His sire Anduc, while also thought of as a dressage horse, is the damsire of a number of successful jumpers/eventers, including Balisto Z (the only Trakehner ever approved by Zangerscheide) and Karascada M. Schiffon is 1/4 TB. As far as other wants you mentioned, neckset, uphill build, legginess and moderate length of frame are all there. And no meanness anywhere! I do believe Schiffon will be a good sire of eventers but can’t prove it at this point, need to wait a couple more years!
As Oakstable suggested, you would be welcome to visit to meet Schiffi. I have 5 offspring to start free jumping one of these days, which might be of interest to you. My husband is an equine vet and we can manage AI breeding on the farm if that would be more convenient. We do offer discounts for proven performance mares.
Lea Ann
Pavarotti and Fandango
I just sat down from bringing 3 Pavi yearlings in for trimming and saw this thread!
There are not a ton of Pavi get since he was not bred much until 3 years ago. We have bred him to both TK and TB mares. They all are quite leggy, short backed and have strong top lines. I have seen both refined and more solild get from him. The kids from TB/TBx mare seem to be more refined. They are smart and have been quite easy to work with. The oldest of the get are coming 4 and have been sold to dressage homes. Homefully we will see them out and about this year! I have a filly out of a lovely TB mare that is the best I have bred and so athletic! She acquired the name Jolly due to her happy attitude and tendency to bound around the field bucking!
Fandango is very much still available. His oldest get are coming 8 in 2012. I have one out eventing prelimary and he is the best event horse I’ve ever had. Anita described his get well in her post. They are athletic, great gaits with amazing brains. I have not met one yet that doesn’t LOVE to jump and I’ve ridden a ton of them. Fandango is definately the easiest horse I’ve ever trained.
Happy to send photos of either Pavi or Fandango and the array of get I have here from each. They are both lovely horses! Let me know if you have any questions on either of the boys.
Thank you both for your inputs on Schiffon, Pavarotti and Fandango! I wish more info made my decisions easier! Of course, if all goes well, this will be the first of several foals I breed from her
More thinking to do…
The most impressive Trakehner stallion
My preferences are elsewhere these days, but I used to include some trakehners in my breeding program for refinement and dressage movement with success (while Veneziano was alive). I see a lot of them. I used to attend inspections and stallion approvals, not to mention I live next to the largest Trakehner breeding farm in the country.
The only thing I can say:
IMPRESSIONIST
He is simply unbelievable. In every sense.

Unfortunately Impressionist is deceased. Not sure if there is frozen available…
Andreas. I too LOVE Impressionist - have bred to him 3 times and am retaining the filly I have by him. He was truly magnificent in every respect. But as Chris says, he is no longer with us. There is not frozen.
I’m supprised no one has mentioned Tzigane Pb.
Especially since you are looking for an UL eventer.
He’s a great guy.
Frozen only though as the German’s have him for the time being.
Yup, that’s right, the German Verband came allll the way over to the US to grab a piece of this handsome ATA.
http://kaboomeventing.com/images/horses/harry/Tzigane_Pb.jpg
His prodigy are new so they have just started eventing.
He’s got what you are looking for in way of neck set and up hill movement.
His kids are known for their distinct ability to “sit” on their hocks.
I’ve had the opportunity to sit on some of his kids. All nice with great minds.
The good news is that the ATA stallion auction will be cranking up soon and you will really be further confused by all the great choices! A lot of young guns out there proving themselves in showjumping and eventing.
Omare, I know! I thought I should start narrowing the field before I get knocked over by all the choices during the auction!
Purplnurpl, Tzigane is one I also really like, I’m surprised no one else has brought him up. I know his sone Harry Houdini is doing really well here (didn’t you start him?) (I’m on the eventing forum a lot!) Actually, maybe someone did mention him earlier, saying he shortens backs…have to go look.
OK, so here is my revised (short?) list: in no particular order…
Oskar II
Schiffon
Tzigane
Grafenstoltz
Titulus
Fleetwater Opposition
Tatendrang
Easy peasy right?
ETA: I do know Oskar may not be available…its a dream list!
I did! especially as he is known to shorten backs And don’t forget Hannibal if you are looking at frozen.
