Would like to know if anyone has had experiences with transfaunation as treatment for a sheath infection please!
Are you meaning a smegma transplant? Taking smegma from one sheath and putting it another?
It worked for my guy who had a bit of a stinky sheath and I would see some gunk on the inside of his hind leg. The vet recommended trying it, said it changes the ph in the sheath - I guess kind of like he had a yeast infection. It worked great for about 8 months at a time and when I could smell eau de smegma I knew it was time to do it again.
The fun part is asking the other boarders for smegma.
I wouldn’t say he had a full-on infection though, but if recommended by your vet I would give it a try!
That is absolutely hilarious.
Thanks for.your feedback. We went ahead and did the procedure late last week. Luckily I have my horses at home and have a “donor” LOL!! Interesting that it lasted only 8 months, but doing the transplant again worked I presume?
Yes, I just do it again whenever I walk past my horse and get a whiff of sheath.
Good to know, thanks!
