Transferring a KWPN Passport and Registration

Is anyone familiar with transferring ownership on a Passport for a Dutch Warmblood (KWPN)?

I recently purchased my Dutch Warmblood in the Netherlands and live in Germany. Eventually he will be imported to the USA, and may move around in the EU with me as well. I am not sure how to get my name on his passport and his registration papers. He is a gelding, so it is no use for me to become an actual member of KWPN since he won’t be breeding or competing in breed specific events.

It looks as though I can fill out a form online, sign it, and send it in with the passport. However, I also read some posts on other forums saying not to send the passport and it stays with the horse. So, have any of you had to go through this before? Or have any resources available?

I want to make sure everything is in order since I will probably have to move him out of the country a few years down the road. Any input regarding this process is appreciated! I have already started researching and bookmarking! I can also call or email KWPN on Monday, but I just wanted to see if anyone had any personal experiences.

I mainly posted here because it seems to be a place where people may have the most experience with Warmblood Registries, Importing, etc. If the post would be better elsewhere, please let me know.

Transferring ownership is very easy with KWPN. As with most registries you need to pay for membership so there are fees due. However, when it comes to claiming ownership of a horse, you should always do it with the registry first. There are so many reasons of this regardless of the sex of the horse. Put your name on the papers!

Yes, the passport stays with the horse but it really is OK to send them away for naming. While it may be just agelding, name him anyway. Geldings still contribute to pedigrees.
