Traveling dressage instructor in Central NY?

Hello!

I’m a long time reader of the forums but first time poster. I am relocating to Central NY/Fingerlakes area and will be looking for a dressage trainer who can travel to my location (horses will be at home and there is an arena at the new property). Does anyone have a recommendation?

I can possibly trailer in for lessons also but due to a hectic work schedule I prefer to lesson at home if possible.

My horse is schooling 3rd/4th level and showing 2nd level. I am looking for someone who can help me with ironing out a few issues in order to make 3rd level more competition-ready (need to develop more collection in trot and need to find more power in the extended trot, tidy up the changes, etc).

I also have a baby upper-level prospect that will need starting next year and hopefully I can find someone who is good with starting young dressage horses, if anyone has any recommendations for that as well.

Thank you!

Where are you going to be? Syracuse area or more the Western Finger Lakes (Cayuga, Seneca, Keuka)?
If more Central NY check the Central NY Dressage and Combined Training Association website. If FingerLakes area check Cayuga Dressage and Combined Training Club website.

Thanks! I’ll be in the Fingerlakes area, near Corning, not terribly close to Syracuse.

Anyone have any actual recommendations? I have a few names but I’m unfamiliar with the area so appreciate any recommendations if anyone has had good experience (or bad?) with any available traveling instructors.

Michelle LaBarre used to do monthly clinics at Finger Lakes Morgans in Bath. She has had her own facility down in PA but has either moved or is moving to Voltra Farm in Verona, NY. Not sure if she is still doing clinics – if you google Michelle LaBarre Dressage you’ll find her website and contact information. Janet Youse is also down in PA at Heavenbound Farm and I think she will travel – google her and you’ll find her website. I think Amy Lynn Jones is at Finger Lakes Equestrian Center in Canandaigua. Gale Wolfe of Gale’s Equine Facility in Big Flats has her Silver Medal and is working on her Gold (needs GP scores) and will do lessons in her facility. Susan Barisone Gilson is up in the Rochester area – don’t know if she travels. Scott Peterson is an S judge who lives in the Penn Yan area – I think he goes to Gale’s Equine Facility sometimes and has clients up in the Rochester area. He judges quite a bit in the summer so availability can be an issue. Hope this is helpful.

Ashley Haffey, near Corning. Travels & starts horses. http://www.lanecovedressage.com

Thanks!

I dunno if she travels to Corning, but Sandy Hider in Rochester is very good.
