Travers Day

Travers Day is tomorrow and thinking back to this incredible moment in 2015, the likes of which will probably never be seen again. Magical

I was sadly there for Travers Day, when he suffered his only loss. That was a stunner.

Thorpedo Anna in the Personal Ensign! What a race from her and from Dorth Vader!

Sovereignty: awesome.

I’m so glad Mott finally got his Travers! And that was certainly easy!

I still can’t believe the small field size. I can understand Journalism’s camp not wanting to get beaten by Sovereignty again, but I’d have thought more horses’ connections would have been attracted by the $1.25 million purse and the chance to get some black type in a prestigious G1.

Baffert usually sends someone, but I think he kept his whole stable at home for the entirety of the meet.

Baffert’s Hope Road won the Ballerina.
Baffert also had three horses in the H. Allen Jerkins sprint–the 3.1 million dollar Barnes finished third.

TY for the correction; I admit to having paid scant attention thus far to the races aside from the Personal Ensign and the Travers.

That was a nail biter! I love T Anna but boy oh boy D Vader is one heck of a nice horse.

If you watch the Travers replay, it is when Sovereignty switches leads from left to right in mid-stretch that he just leaves Bracket Buster behind.

I thought Sovereignty ran huge but he ran against nobody or at least the second string three year olds of this year. We haven’t seen a horse like him in a long time- he isn’t the typical type of American thoroughbred- his size, scale, overall mass and that head; he really is in his own class as far as looks go. Super happy for Mott- he is one of my favorite trainers. One of the good guys, all class.

Thorpedo Anna showed her grit this weekend. She’s not very quick and she does not have great numbers but she seems to get it done. Credit to Dorth Vader who laid it down in the stretch. I am surprised Dorth Vader was 11-1 in the odds, daughter of Girvin is campaigned by her breeder.

It was nice to see Bookem Danno get it done again, although he was looking a bit gassed. I think it’s tremendous that he is a NJ Bred by Bucchero but a bit unfortunate he is a Gelding. Bucchero is probably one of the best regional stallions standing right now with a different pedigree- it’s great to see.

Outside of Sovereignty, Journalism, and Baeza, it seems like all the three year olds this year are second string.

Does anyone have a link to a conformation shot of Sovereignty? I have searched, but only found action pictures.

Have seen several other well filled races or 3 year olds in the last few weeks, seems Sovereignty is suffering the ultimate compliment, nobody wants to put their good colts in against him. Something I fully understand, I would not want mine to run their hearts out only to fall short. Some do not bounce back so well after that.

Track (Keeneland?) might have to offer incentives to others if he wants a prep race before the BC.

TA really gutted that win out on pure class.

Thanks! Looks like a beautiful shoulder. Well developed withers. I like his head–big, but plenty of room for nostrils.

I would still like to see a posed conformation shot.

Probably will not see one of those until he goes to stud. most of the media is too focused on his head shots and action shots

He looks like a body builder in a muscle shirt . If he gets to keep that sheet it won’t fit once he’s put on a couple pounds.

I love the straight profile. If only he had big ears, then he’d be perfect.

Mott will train Sovereignty up to Breeders’ Cup Classic
