I just tuned in.
I tuned in a couple of minutes early and got tickled listening to a table full of sportscasters talking about this seasonās college football teams. They sounded exactly like Randy and Laffit and Jerry and Edzo sitting around talking about the Triple Crown hopefuls.
Iāve missed most of the Saratoga races this August because I didnāt know they were being broadcast by FOX instead of NBC. Oh, well, the Travers is one I really want to see.
Wow. Chad Brown just walked by. They spoke of him as if he were just an ordinary good-guy horse trainer.
slaps forehead. I didnāt realize till too late it wasnāt being shown on TVG. So then, on a frantic search for it. FINALLY found it-after the race:mad:
I really love Tacitus and was hoping heād pull it off today Ć¢ĖĀ¹ĆÆĀøĀ But what a finish for Code of Honor! I was surprised Tax didnt finish betterā¦
Impressive win by Code of Honor. I loved it when the maintenance crew took down the big Fox signs before the race started. Fox probably wasnāt happy about that.
Great win for Code of Honor. I remember thinking back at the Fountain of Youth that he was a greyhoundy, immature-looking specimen physically. Heās developed some this year since, though still a little horse. Hope he gets to keep racing as a 4-year-old; I think heāll only improve as he ages.
TVG did say at least once about 45 minutes to PT that the Travers would not be broadcast live on TVG.
Checked NBCSN, NBC, then FOX for the score
I agree, nice win for Code Of Honor. Good race!
The Pat OāBrien at Del Mar was also goodā¦ finish line cameras got their workout today determining placing.
TVG did say at least once about 45 minutes to PT that the Travers would not be broadcast live on TVG.
you know, I watched TVG all day, good racing from Saratoga! But I somehow missed that. Then I frantically went thru ALL the channels. Tried to pull it up on the web at NYRA, no, I had to sign up and living in Mo, I donāt think it is allowed. I tried to get a TGV account about 10 years ago, just for the bling, but Missouri still doesnāt allow gambling on horses. I finally did get to see it on TVG.
Larksmom, when TVG doesnāt have the rights to broadcast live (seems like races āownedā by Twin Spires are the usual culprit) TVG will broadcast the race, just not live.
Today for the Travers sounded like TVG had to wait until FOXās broadcast was off the air before TVG showed the race. So, depends on how bad you want to see it live vs delayed maybe 10-15 minutes. Yeah, I am a āliveā kind of person :o
I too would have been ticked off to sit in front of TVG and wonder why PT came and went without the race (itās happened to me more than once)ā¦
I mostly just got lucky today
Loved it when one of the announcers pretty much blasted FOX for their ignorance regarding the signs. When they were taking down the signs, I heard one of them say, ātold them that was a bad ideaā.
I was bummed to see Looking at Bikinis stumble at the starts. His workout the other day looked really good. Luckily I had a backup bet and got the Exacta. I would love to see Code of Honor in a race with Omaha Beach when he returns.
What is it that you think he is?
At least when the jocks complained about the signs, and yeah they were ridiculously large and obvious, the signs were laid down on the turf course before the horses were loaded in the gate.
What a good run by COH. I really liked him back in the Derby, but he showed he was still quite immature then.
Looks like, while heās still smaller in stature compared to some of the others, heās starting to fill out.
Have to remember he is the youngest of the main group of 3y/o running.
I think by the time the fall races start, heāll be right where he needs to be.
It should for sure make things interesting if Maximum Security, WoW, & Omaha Beach get back into things.
When did FOX gert into horse racing anyway? Did I see Lafitte or was that my imagination? Does that mean NBC has given up on it? And can that mean Kentucky will soon be on the chopping block?
I am usually a sucker for a good looking Chestnut. And I love Code of Honor because I always loved his sire, Noble Mission, since he was being offered at stud and people on this board thought I was nuts. With that being said, Code of Honor is a bit of rangy fellow. Not much substance to him, quite lanky. Heās a far stretch from looking at something like War of Will which is surprising because his sire has a lot of substance to him. But he has plenty of grit and speed in the stretch and he is a hard tryer. I think Code of Honor will just keep getting better. Heās maturing and coming into his own now.
Tacitus: I feel as though if he wasnāt pressed on the backstretch and into the far turn, he mightāve had more gas in the tank coming home. He reminds me of Frosted. Always trying, always hitting the board, but can never seem to come across the line first. Heās consistent, he just doesnt have that kick needed to come home.
Tax: Always my favorite. Pace was fast. He was pressed up there from the 12 hole. Running 4 or 5 wide most of the track. He never gave up but he looked tired. Still one of my favorites, love his pedigree, love him
I have to ask, why water the track so heavy at Toga? All of these horses coming across the line in any of the races that day were covered in mud. I was at the Travers a few years back and they had a water truck water the track pretty heavily before every race. Weather was much the same: Warm, Dry, Sunny. I understand not wanting the track dusty but why so flippen muddy?
It was mentioned on an earlier broadcast that they have a new contract with Fox (I watch the races on FS2) to show races. I lucked into seeing races at Belmont (with some at Churchill thrown in) and now Saratoga. I watch replays sometimes by going to the Saratoga Racing website. (Iāve watched some Monmouth racing by going to its website.) Sometimes the program comes on at 1:00 p.m., and you see all of the races, and sometimes it airs later, so you get the āremainingā races. If that happens, I go to the website to see the race Iāve missed.
They rotate two sets of three announcers/commentators/handicappers(?) if they show the whole program. Richard Migliore is usually part of the earlier set, and Laffit Pincay III and Gary Stevens are usually on at the same time (I forget who else is with them), doing the later races.
thanks, RHD! But what about NBC? Are they out? I am guessing they are still covering the Kentucky event, but do I not remember that they have been losing lots of money on their Olympics coverage? Have they actually cut out racing? The coverage of BC has gotten skimpier and skimpier as years go by. Have they finally ceded it to TVG?
These things are all done by contracts, usually multi-year. If one network wants to show the race more than another and offers a better deal, then theyāll get it. NBC has the Derby through 2025, Preakness through it looks like 2022, and Belmont at least until next year. They have the Olympics through 2032.
The networks do swap some sports around on their less widely available network owned channels and with other networks at some times of the year when so many sports are involved in major marquee events. Iām sure there must be contractual clauses that allow this to work around schedule conflicts and they reciprocate.
I watch motor racing too and sometimes itās hard to find and not where expectedā¦
The 3yo Eclilse picture is certainly muddy at this point. Fall races and the BC should be exciting.
yes, I realize that I just hadnāt heard anything about FOX moving in on racing. Because NBC used to bump in on various races n the past. I just donāt watch as much racing as I used to.
