Traverse City H/J barn for beginner teen?

Hi all,

A friend of mine is looking for a hunter/jumper barn for her 13 yo daughter in the Traverse City area. The girl has been riding a while but would like to show, and her current barn doesn’t offer that. She is going to ask current barn for recommendations as well but asked if I would tap into my networks too. She is hoping to stay as close to TC as possible but will drive for the right place. Doesn’t need to be A-circuit, just a quality program for a kid to hone skills and try out showing.

Many thanks in advance for any tips!

Do you mean in Michigan?

Yes, sorry Traverse City, MI

Check at Bayshore in Petoskey. Also, wander the barns at the Equestrian Festival and look for local barns.

She doesn’t own, has been taking lessons at a multi discipline place but trainer only shows dressage and she wants to focus on H/J.

Bay Harbor is closed and yes, a long way from Traverse. There is a horseman’s group up there but I can’t think of their name. I would check Facebook and ask your current trainer. It’s unlikely that any local barns will be showing at the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival.

Bay Harbor. That was it. Obviously it’s been a while since I’ve been to Petoskey.

Northern Pines is the only barn that does A circuit. They do have lesson horses but it’s kind of like two separate programs. They’re a pretty serious program that spends much of the winter in Florida. They’re outside of TC but still pretty close. As others have said Bay Harbor has been closed for quite some time, and honestly no one really rode there when it was open.
