Tredstep breeches - opinions?

The latest Dover sale catalog describes all 3 models on the inside front cover as “modified mid rise.” Can anyone describe what this means as far as fit goes? I like the EuroSeat look; anything to break up the acres of fabric covering the wide expanse of my derriere (plus vertical lines are slimming, no?).

Also, the difference between Symphony No. 1, 3 and 4 appears to me to be the fabric. Does anyone have any insights to share on what’s comfortable or not comfortable about each of these models, whether in the saddle, walking around, etc? Opinions on which of these wears well (or not)? Which ones are thick/substantial enough to cover some lumps, bumps and panty lines [I will invest in some Spanx, but I will NOT wear butt floss i.e. a thong]. I am looking for tan to show in at local HJ circuit shows, so if color would influence your opinion there’s that fact. I used to find that darker color breeches (rust, back in my day) were more forgiving, so you could buy cheap ones, but for white, you had to just suck it up and buy very expensive breeches to get them thick enough to not be see through.

I live in a hot part of the country, so cotton or blend is appealing but I HATE spending $100 on cotton or cotton blend breeches then have them pill in the wash. I am a machine wash kind of girl, because all my local drycleaners are charging $5 a pair to dryclean, and mine have to be washed after every ride, IFKWIMAITYD. I do turn all my breeches inside out, wash on the delicate cycle, and hang to dry.

Another question - I am not familiar with any of the new “technical” fabric for breeches; I have been away from English horses for many years and currently only have DevonAire Versailles schoolers (the only pair I could find at local tack shop that was not low rise). Does the technical fabric actually keep you cooler, without chafing? I have tried the Coolmax golf shirts, and to be honest, they make me hotter not cooler; the only thing i like about them is my Nike ones haven’t faded at all the way my cotton polos have fuzzed and faded from wash wear.

I have the Tredstep Rosa breeches, and tried them on at the tack shop side by side with TS’s. The material seemed to be exactly the same, and they fit me better then the TS’s. I think they are substantially thick, they seem thicker and sturdier than most other breeches in my closet. They are just about normal rise, maybe a bit on the lower side.

THANKS! When you say the same material as TS, I am only familiar with the TS two way stretch in that green color that was the shizzle a while back. Is that the fabric you are talking about? I didn’t like that style, i preferred a stretchier fabric (and didn’t like the knee seams or the real suede).

I know nothing about Tredsteps–I don’t own any–but “modified mid-rise” is pretty much the only alternative to low-rise these days. There are a few manufacturers who still make true regular-rise models, but very few. Personally I can’t stand wearing low-rise breeches, and I’m not crazy about mid-rise either, but there isn’t a whole lot out there for people like me.

Most of the new technical fabrics are really nice, on the other hand. I have several pairs of the Versailles breeches (similar to the ones you have), and they are great for schooling in hot weather, but I wouldn’t show in them. They are too thin.

You may be interested in Tropical Riders. They do make a few regular-rise models, and they have some hot-weather models you might like.

I have 3 pairs of the Tredstep Rosa breeches. Overall, I like them. The fabric isn’t too thin, so it holds in most of my lumps and bumps. Like Dewey, I can’t stand low rise breeches. I would like the rise on the Tredsteps to be a little higher, but it’s acceptable. They do tend to slide down a bit unless I keep my belt a bit on the tight side. My Trophy Hunter mid-ride breeches don’t do that. I prefer the technical fabrics to the older cotton types. I like the leg on the Tredsteps. It’s fashionable, and I don’t mind that it’s not velcro. I find that the colors fade rather quickly, though.

Tredstep is rapidly becoming our favorite brand; we use them for both everyday (Rosa side zips) and for showing.

Though I’m not quite ready to retire my tan Tailored Sportsmans for hunters, I think I’m pretty much done with TS in the jumper ring. I’m particularly pleased with a very nice pair of Tredstep Symphony breeches in white that I got last year to wear in jumper classics.

After years of TS I really appreciate the stretchy fitted cuff ankles. They are super good value, very well priced nearly everywhere I’ve seen them and so far I’ve found them to be more consistent in fit than the Tailored Sportsmans which could vary from pair to pair.

I wear the Rosa’s and I think they are the best of the four types.

FYI if you like the fit and fabric on these you will also like the riding sport competitor II from Dover. It’s similar and the knee patch are cheap at $60.

The white Rosa’s are on clearance at Dover aa well. I event so I wear white a lot so I bought w few.

FWIW, I’m a 32 in TS and Pipers.

I have to wear a 30 in Treadstep and Dover brands.

No they aren’t like the older type of green TS’s I meant they are like the Trophy Hunter type of TS’s which do stretch a nice amount while holding a good amount of structure.

I have the Rosa’s in every color (and waiting on the new navy and black). I love them.

I recently bought a pair of the Rosa’s and I have mixed feelings. I’ve always been a TS girl and the Rosa’s looked great in the store but I’ve found that the fabric doesn’t have the same stretch as the TS 4-way and my Rosa’s stretched out and have lost their shape a little bit. These are my first pair, so I’m not sure if I got a fluke pair or if this is what they normally do.

Same, i am not sure if i lost weight or bought a size to big, but they are very lose now and just look a bit sloppy. (Also TS lover)

Did you guys size down one? That is what I have found that I need to do with Treadsteps.

I did not. I am a 24/26, and now the 26 fits quite baggy on me, i’ll try out a pair of 24 to see.

Not a fan. They don’t wash well. The color fades very quickly both from UV and washing. The material is kind of stiff and makes a popping noise as it flexes when I walk which is annoying and embarrassing. The knee patches got pilly and collect all sorts of hay and shavings and junk.

I bought 2 pairs and both behaved the exact same way.

I just got a pair of the Azzuras and those puppies are snug! TS 28 are a little roomy on me so I opted for a 28 in the Azzuras as well (I figured white breeches are not the time to size down) but they feel a full size smaller. I haven’t worn them around much yet so they may still stretch. They are lovely breeches, though.

My french blue ones faded, but my mocha and iron colored ones didn’t.

I adore Treadsteps! I think it will be all I buy from now on.

I got the same size I am in the TS because when I was in the store - the size down felt very tight and it felt very uncomfortable. Since they aren’t as stretchy as the TS, I couldn’t squeeze myself into the size down. If I’d realize they were going to stretch out so much - I would have tried a little harder though lol

To tell the absolute truth I was going to mention that mine did that too. They actually got too big for me, I washed them a couple times and they shrunk back to normal size.
