Tredstep Donatello question

I was about to buy a pair of the Donatellos at Dover today and I noticed the vertical tabs (not sure what they’re called) on the top outsides of the boots were partially stitched in the middle and then messily glued on the rest of the way. The other Tredstep models are stitched all the way as are most other tall boots.

Are all the Donatellos made like this and does the glue make a mess after a while? Am I being uber picky because I thought it looked pretty bad. Otherwise, they were great!

Posting a picture - it’s the lengthwise tab up at the top of the boot on the side.

I have a pair on donatellos… Total crap

After breaking them it became clear that each boot is made out of completely different leather. One is smooth and the other is wrinkly like buffalo.

When I was getting fitted at the tack shop, the owner popped zippers on 2 boots (both donatellos) in the process… Not trying to cram my leg into a small boot, just normal pressure.

Got them bc I had store credit and desperately needed a pair of boots… And this shop only carries tredstep.

I have a few other tired step items and for the price, I’m completely underwhelmed by all of them :/. Their stuff looks nice but is not built to last.

Well that’s not a glowing endorsement! Are your tabs glued as well?

Mine are stitched at the top and then at the bottom. There is no observable glue. The tabs are not tacked down in any fashion between the two stitchings: I just stuck my finger in there.

I can’t speak to longevity as I bought mine for shows, went to one show in July 2012 with the boots, used them in a clinic a couple of months later, and haven’t worn them since. Not the boots’ fault.

When I first ordered mine, I actually sent them back because the tabs looked so strange to me (uneven, warped leather underneath where they were attached) that I thought that pair must be defective. The second pair I received looked exactly the same–I needed a pair of boots ASAP and they fit me pretty well for an off-the-rack boot, so I kept them. I wish I hadn’t.
My boots have already developed 2 holes on the outside part of the calf where the rear stretch panel is pulling away from the seam (a few more wears and you’ll be able to see my socks through them!). This has been with relatively light wear–at the time the holes appeared, my horses had been living with my trainer in a different state so I had only been wearing them an average of 4-5 times every 2 months in the year since I bought them. Really disappointing.

Just FYI the little tab things are called swagger tabs

That makes sense that they were stitched. These were only stitched in the middle and the glue coming up everywhere. Glad to know they shouldn’t look like that!

Mine are glued, and the glue came off.

They now proudly stick out at the sides
