Tredstep Medici...anyone have experience with them?

With Christmas approaching, I’ve asked my parents for new tall boots (yay!), and I’m trying to narrow down what works with the combo of fit & price. I tried on the Tredstep Donatello at the local tack shop and it fit well in a 39, medium calf, regular height. I know the Medici is the newer line that Tredstep recently came out with, but I can’t find many reviews on them.
Anyone own these, or at least tried them on? Is it worth the extra $$? Will the sizing I need on the Donatello be comparable to the Medici?

I can’t speak for the Medici’s, but I have the DaVinci’s and I have been very happy with the quality. I started using mine just for shows, but they have been my everyday riding boots for the past year at least and they’re holding up extremely well…and I don’t take great care of my boots

I bought a pair over the summer and love mine. Well worth a little more money! No idea how the sizing compares to the DaVincis, however

I bought a pair from SmartPak in May and they’re lovely… just didn’t hold up whatsoever. The zipper broke in September, and I’m working on having it replaced because I couldn’t find another brand that fit me.

Hound Dog & Brutus - what kind of calf are you fitting? Mine are on the more muscular side which is why I need a Medium. I’d be interested to know if one or both of you have a similar fit.

I bought them because they have the slimmest calf width available in my size of off the rack tall boots. So I have the regular height, extra slim width. Well - I’ve never had this problem before, but I could barely get them zipped up and when I did I could hardly walk because they were SO tight.

I soaked shaft of the boots with rubbing alcohol and wore them around which helped stretch them out. Now they feel like custom boots. I honestly haven’t ridden in them much because I usually school in half chaps and haven’t shown since I’ve had them.

I’m not sure about the elastic panel along the zipper. It’s about an inch wide, and it does stretch a little, but I still had to soak and stretch the calf area. I worry about it losing its elasticity. I’ve had that happen with the Tredstep half chaps, but it does seem like a sturdier material. Only time will tell though.

Overall they seem very nice. My husband has the Donatellos - the Medicis are nicer quality, though the Donatellos are working out well for him.

I wear a regular calf in almost everything and these are no exception.

I had a pair of DaVincis and they were hands down the most uncomfortable boots I have ever owned. They never really broke in and always made my ankles bleed despite being the perfect size.

I think the Treadstone Tuscanys are a much nicer and more comfortable boot for a great price. I was a regular in the DaVincis, but a wide in the Treadstones fits me perfectly.

I bought size 39, regular height and medium calf in the Medici. I’m between sizes in many brands, and I don’t like my boots to fit SUPER tight, even at first. These zipped all the way up without much trouble at all, and broke in nicely. I wanted to like them, and honestly I still DO like them, which is why I’m attempting to get them repaired. But knowing the quality issues, I simply cannot recommend the model to anyone in good faith.

Interestingly enough, I bought a pair of Donatello’s at the same time, in the same size, and those fit quite differently. I’ve been wearing them for about two months without any issues so far…

It sounds like you’re the same size as me. What fit differently in the Donatello’s vs. the Medici’s?

The Donatello was slightly wider through the calf and ankle. I can fit an extra layer easily under my breeches and zip up the Donatello without issue, and I can add in normal socks now as well. Which is perfect, because I bought the Donatello’s as a winter riding boot. I could not do this with the Medici’s – they are much more form fitting.

Despite being wider, I do not think the Donatello’s are unattractive or give me a weird silhouette – they are proportional and just wide enough to be great for adding extra layers if needed.
