I don’t wanna debate tree vs treeless, I’ve had only very good experiences with treeless. I’m looking for a treeless western saddle that actually looks like a western saddle. Traditional enough to do some very local and low-key competitions (mounted shooting, western dressage, etc.) The Barefoot Missoula Nut and Virginia Rose look really nice. So does the Startrekk Western Classic but I’ve never seen any of those in person, so any input as to quality, comfort, etc. would be appreciated. And of course any other suggestions to look into!
While I’ve never personally had one, my BO has a custom Bob Marshall that she uses for trail riding that she absolutely loves.
Bob Marshal is what those that like such saddles prefer.
I have tried two of those, not really impressed.
The ones I tried looked like a western saddle, horn and all.
I think you have to get used to them to like them.
Not as many today use treeless as they did when it first became a fad some decades ago.
I have one of the original Bob Marshall western treeless saddles, no horn. Have been riding in it since '97 - never had an issue with any horse that I used it on. It’s very comfy - have ridden 20+ mile rides in it numerous times. You must use a Skito pad with these to provide enough padding and the opening down the gullet.
