Tribute - Ultra GH and Essential K

I am going to be switching my horse over to Tribute’s Ultra GH and Essential K. Who has used this and what are your thoughts?

Currently I am feeding Progressive’s ProAdvantage Grass Formula and Envision Classic.

While I am not dissatisfied with what I am currently feeding, I have heard good things about Tribute with the Ultra GH being good for digestive health and then the Essentail K woudl be similar to the Envision that I feed.

I use Tribute Kalm Ultra and have used Essential K in the past. Love Tribute products. Essential K was good for my hard keeper helping him maintain his weight without overfeeding the Kalm Ultra. He was also a picky eater and gobbled up both products. My 6 year old eats Kalm Ultra and is a pudgy porker that keeps his cool and is barefoot on the back - so I think it helps hoof quality as well. Both horses had slick, shiny coats without using other supplements.

I use the Essential K as a top dress for additional amino acids/protein. I’ve noticed a huge difference in my horse’s topline/Muscle with it. He’s 18 but is increasing his topline muscle instead of losing it. Good food and correct work have been a big help for him.

The new program is pretty different from the current one. Why did you pick those 2 new products?

Essential K is a ration balancer. Envision Classic is a fat supplement.

Essential K is closer to the Grass Advantage, with a bit lower nutrient profile.

The Ultra GH is 24% NSC, and not something I would choose for that reason alone.

What GI health issues is your horse having? I would much rather feed a low NSC feed and add digestive support if truly needed, than feed a 24% NSC feed meant to be used at 4lb minimally.

As others have said, Essential K is a ration balancer like Progressive’s ProAdvantage Grass Formula. K Finish is Tribute’s version of Envision. My horse has been all of these, depending on what feed company the barn I was at fed.

I agree with JB that I wouldn’t feed the Ultra GH because of its high NSC. In fact, I switched to a ration balancer and fat supplement made by McCauley’s because their high fat top dress (Omega Bran) has much lower NSC than Envision and K Finish.
