Tricks for getting dropped semen out of the bottom of the tank?

Help! I lost a cane in the bottom of my narrow mouthed tank. There is 1 .5cc straw (of very expensive semen, of course) in it, which looks to hopefully still be in there. I don’t have easy access to a pour tank. Surely someone has some tricks or ideas…wire, coat hanger, some place that sells reeeaaalllly long forceps??

string-magnet?

Go to a car part store and you can get a long flexible grabber. You shine a flash light in the tank after you feed the grabber to the bottom and just grab it  it opens the fingers by pushing on the top, works fine , I have done the same

haha - I’ve done this too! Felt like such an idiot. I had 6 skinny straws lying on the bottom of my tank. The long grabbers worked beautifully.

Grabber sounds great. Redneck variation is lots of double sided tape balled up on the end of a straightened piece of wire hanger. And very very steady hands. Grabber sounds even better

“Gopher grabber”! Haven’t you seen those on TV? They are a stick with a grabby thing on the end that you operate by squeezing the handle. It will work perfectly!

The “grabber” will sometimes work, but the rubber band that makes it open and close will freeze up and break :stuck_out_tongue: (can you tell I’ve done this before :D). There are a couple Tricks you can do. Pick up a few Styrofoam ice chests at walmart. If you have other semen stored in the tank, you can pour nitrogen into one of the ice chests, pull that semen out and place in the ice chest with nitrogen and then start pouring the rest of the nitrogen out into the other ice chests. When it gets down to the last bit of nitrogen, you’ll want to lay the tank on it’s side and “rock” it a bit to get that straw to line up for a straight “shot” out of the tank when you go to pour out the last bit of nitrogen. Make ABSOLUTELY sure you have nitrogen in the ice chest you’re going to dump it into. When you’ve got everything lined up, pour out the last bit briskly. Be prepared to dump some nitrogen BACK into the tank should the straw not come out. Another option is to do as above, but when you lay the tank on the side, rock it so that the straw is up closer to the neck and use long forceps or hemostats to try to fish it out. Good luck!

no go with the grabber, much easier and mine has no rubber in it, its springy metal

HA! You must have went for the deluxe model. I only needed it to try and get a straw out of the bottom of the tank, so didn’t want to spend much on it <ROTFL>.

This!

I have done this a couple of times. It works.

Thanks all! I am trying the grabber thing first today, if that doesn’t work I’ll try a styrofoam cooler. I’m still kicking myself…
